Facebook Tabs…aaaAAAH!!! Help. (7 posts)

Topic tags: facebook tabs, html
  • I want to build custom tabs, but don’t know much HTML, and didnt have any idea that it was this difficult to create a tab. What I’m thinking about doing is, Creating a tab-page with images, ect – save as a jpeg, then image map the page – so I can have click-able images, to link to my website -  then using static HTML app on Facebook, upload my jpeg page I created and then blah blah blah blah blah… I’m going on and on – as you can tell. The thing is. I’m trying to find the best way of doing this -  for FREE…. If anybody could give me some pointer or suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thanks for listening to my crybaby story.

  • Are you going to build the map yourself? are you going to host it yourself? or you prefer to have it hosted?

http://www.iwipa.com if you need to host your content.  https://www.facebook.com/vindiapps?sk=app_106878476015645 if you build and host your page, use zoom frame to easily show it on your page.

  • I plan on hosting myself, thank you -  ill check it out!

  • @rhopkins one thing to be careful of if you are hosting yourself is that you need to have an SSL certificate otherwise it won’t show to those using Facebook on secure browsing – I noticed many people’s tabs dont work as they have not changed this. Therefore like @vincentedwards mentioned you can use Iwipa or similar. Also Facebook can often change coding which means you have to then update all of your apps -  whereas if you use one of the App programs out there like these or Shortstack/ Lijure etc which have free options they make sure they update everything in the background to be compliant with Facebook and so you don’t have to worry.

  • Its true about the SSL, however, the zoom frame has a proxy, so you can use http websites.

  • @rhopkins

I’m going to add my .02, but then kick this over to the FB club where they have discussions like this all the time.

Check out a tab vendor like ShortStack, Lujure or Constant Contact. They have fully hosted, drag and drop functionality. Shortstack even has a free tool (including hosting!) for up to 2K fans. Plus the ability to run sweepstakes and a whole bunch more.

    Good luck!

  • I have been experimenting with Lujure to build i-frame tabs and it is very easy to do and well worth checking out. Today I created an app that would link straight to the email newsletter sign-up page on my website. Very impressed so far.
