Facebook Reach (5 posts)

  • Hi everyone, I believe many of you would’ve realized of late that facebook reach for text based posts has achieved a very much higher reach ( between 2x to 3x) than the highly recommended photos/images based posts. No one seems to know what’s the reason for this sudden odd change in the Edgerank. If this’s going to be a permanent change, i guess we’ll all have to forget about using photos/images based posts and switch to using ONLY text based posts to reach a wider audience. Does anyone here know for sure what’s really causing this change? Will it be a permanent change?

  • We are seeing mixed reports on this, @louisteoh but many people are seeing the same thing.  On Social Media Examiner we are seeing anywhere between 3-7 times as high Reach numbers for text only posts.  That doesn’t always translate to higher engagement on those posts but you would think it would be better to reach more people.  I don’t know what the reason for this is or if it’s permanent.

Interesting for sure since we’ve been telling everyone to include photos as much as possible!  We posted about it today here: http://www.facebook.com/smexaminer/posts/10151216219649383  Interesting to see the responses so far!

  • This is interesting! I have yet to notice this, but will certainly be paying attention now. It is a curious change. I guess it keeps us on our toes trying to keep up with the latest.

  • @andrea-vahl thats a neat  thread  ….and  so wierd  that   some arent   having this issue……but  nice  to  know it isnt just a  few who are  having   huge downturn on  pictures…….

but  what to do?  no   words  from  above?    how  are  you  going to  advise  people  to  engage?….the pictures  worked so well…..

for me right now my plot is   …  keep  the picture posts  …they  are what  bring me   real  business…, increase the  text posts and  i guess promote  at least  one picture post a week…. and hope  for  a change   and   some  best pratice advice from the  thought leaders/gurus…… advice past  good  content….

i dont  quite  get  the idea of   putting  the picture post  down in the comments…. i couldnt  follow…ive  read  that a few places….

aanyway  im  glad  this is  being  discussed  …

  • Yes! I noticed the change right after Facebook went public. Totally different policies come into play when events of this type take place. However, upper management prefers that these policy changes be implemented at a slow and unnoticeable pace.
