Facebook promote (6 posts)

  • I have a business owner wanting to pay me to use facebook promote on my page?  Is this against facebook rules?

  • I’m not sure what he’s asking you for, @kim-olive – are you promoting a post on your page that includes something about him?  That is not against Facebook terms that I know of but you may want to consider your audience and if it’s a good fit for them.  Facebook does specifically say you can’t sell posts on your personal profile, but it doesn’t mention on a Facebook Page.

  • @andrea-vahl
Sorry for the confusion.  He is willing to pay me a fee to promote his business on my business page using facebook promote.

  • Sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier, @kim-olive  I think if it’s something that works with your audience it might be worth it.  But I would also think about the situation if your audience found out that you were paid to promote something to them, would they be upset?  It’s really not all that different than affiliate marketing but transparency is necessary in that case.  You need to let people know that it is an affiliate link.  If you can think of a way to let people know that you will have some promotional links, then that may be a good thing.

  • I remember when my Google page rank 5 (back when we thought that mattered) site was dropped to a zero because I was accused of paid promotion. If FB does not oppose it now, be ready for them to change. Anything that takes away from FB getting revenue is bad and you would compete with their advertising stuff.
if you do it, only do it for one page at a time.

  • I am not sure that I will even do it.  I have promoted a few of my personal posts to see if I see a benefit and I don’t.  I do see that (according to facebook) the reach increases, but I think their range of reach is ridiculous. If I chose the $50 plan, I am looking at a 4,000 fan range reach.
    What about ya’ll?
