Facebook Places for Local Chain/Graph Search (5 posts)

  • Hi, I am brand new here, so please be gentle:) I FB messaged Michael Stelzner and he thought this question was worthy of asking here.

I have a client who owns a local chain of diners in New Orleans. We claimed places pages for all of them, but they sit inactive. We are focused on one main page. Now that I am using Graph Search, I’m afraid people will want to use them instead of the main page. However, if we delete them, we are afraid people will claim them again.  Your advice would be welcome on what to do with these pages:)

  • No worries at all Greta!  I think it may be a good idea to see if you can get these locations all under your main Page.   This is called a Parent-child Facebook Page so that the checkins still work but they all count towards the main Page.  This is how places like Home Depot and Macy’s are set up.

For awhile it’s been difficult to get small businesses set up this way.  But I have heard of more businesses doing this even for small chains (and one I’m familiar with was a Pizza chain)  I would see if you could connect with Facebook through the Help area or you may have better luck going through the Advertising department (tell them you’d like to advertise your locations but would like them all on one main page).  Hope that helps!

Has anyone else had luck getting this type of multi-place Page set up?

  • Wow – thanks so much @andrea. I had no idea this might be an option! Now to figure out how to do it. I claimed those place pages over 2 years ago, so hopefully that will help and we do advertise on FB as well. I truly appreciate your advice!

  • I have a way of driving all of the patrons in each location to each individual business page on a per location basis.   I am currently marketing this system and have many clients  i.e.  restaurants, car dealerships, nightclubs, etc.  You can find some insight and my contact info at one of my websites:   http://www.roundtablemarketingllc.com/#!solutions/c20x9

  • @andreaI now have a FB rep as this account signed up for the FB $50 a day ad. He is willing to merge the place pages for me, but says I will continue to run into problems with new place pages. He said,

“We hope that the release of “Global pages” will change this.  I don’t know when this will happen but hopefully at some point this year.  This is the free options so far, if you want to you can contact a 3rd party developer (maybe the one you use for the contest) and they may be able to create an app for your page that will stop this.”

Before I let him merge, do you know of such an app?
