Facebook pages aren’t merging (7 posts)

  • Recently, I converted a personal profile into a business page and now I am trying to merge that new business page with another existing page. They both have the same name and category.

In the meantime, I tried to merge the pages now three times but nothing happens. First I waited for 3 days – since I read on the net that a merge can take up to 48 hours. Then I tried again – waited another 2 days. Now, yesterday, I gave it another try. Nothing changes at all.

Did anyone else experience the same? If so, how did you solve the problem?

Since I’m still updating the original site (not the one converted from a profile) can this cause a stopp to the merge?

I am actually updating the page with the lower number of likes – could this be the reason the two pages won’t merge? Should I rather work from the page with the higher number of likes (the former profile)?

I am getting new likes on both pages now, which is totally stupid because I don’t want to publish the same updates on both pages. It’s just unnecessary work. But I also want to keep our fans entertained and not lose them…

  • @claudiapoeckl When I merged It was almost instant that the process was completed. I made sure I was the Admin on both pages and completed the steps. This was prior to changes in merge criteria, but you definitely want to make sure you merge to have the page with the higher likes as the primary. I am not sure why you still would be having issue. @Andrea-Vahl do you have any suggestions?

  • @claudiapoeckl  I’ve talked to a lot of people who have had trouble merging.  Are the addresses the same if you have addresses listed?  Do you have the same admin rights on both (I’m sure you do, just asking).  Have you tried it in multiple browsers?  I’ve sometimes found that one browser works when another one doesn’t.

    It sounds very frustrating!!

  • Merged a couple pages and it took 1 day.

  • @claudiapoeckl I had the same problem as you.  Tried to merge pages several times and it wouldn’t work.  I finally Googled the problem and it led me to a page in Facebook help where you can ask Facebook directly to help you do it and within 24 hours the pages were merged.  I don’t remember the link to the page, but if you just Google it I’m sure you’ll find it.  Hope this helps.

  • Thanks to you all for your answers. I’m following a thread in the FB forum and unfortunately nothing helped so far. I followed all the suggested steps:

I made sure that my pages’ information is completely the same on all pages, I switched to language English US, I made the smaller page ‘inactive’, I removed all other admins and I tried with different browsers. Nothing helped.

Now, indeed, there is a link where you can request directly with FB to have your pages merged. Unfortunately, this link is only accessible for people with US IP-addresses. The link is not working for me in Europe.

So it seems other people were able to switch their IP addresses to US and then the link worked – but I don’t know how to do that. Anyone of you have any clue how I can switch my IP address to a US one?

  • oh, I didn’t know that you needed an US address, I was planning to merge 2 pages but I wasn’t sure, now that there is a posibility that it wont work because I live in south america… I guess I won’t even bother…

I read an article of how to change your IP address, isn’t not that hard, just google it and I’m sure you can find how to do it :)
