Facebook LIKES – Do you have a system or strategy? (7 posts)

Topic tags: facebook likes, niche
  • I’ve been going back and forth on this subject for some time now.  At first I stayed away from LIKE parties, then I joined them – LIKING pages where I thought we had something in common.  After getting very few LIKE-backs I quit that practice.

Originally, I thought it was pointless to LIKE pages where there was absolutely no connection or interest.  Now I’ve changed my point of view on that too.  After all, if my Page happens to show up on someone’s timeline where one of their connections picks up on it, then that is a good thing.  I’m no longer choosey about which pages to like or not to like, and I don’t worry about whether they like me back.

I’ve noticed others LIKE everything around them, not necessarily in their niche.  If I LIKE your page and your content, I slide over to the right column and check out your LIKES too.

So what are your viewpoints on this subject?  To LIKE or NOT TO LIKE – that is the question!

  • @melowout Hi Melodie. For my work Facebook page, I can really only Like our members or partners plus a few other industry-related pages (Mashable, PR Daily, etc.). My Facebook account is personal so I only have a handful of page Likes.

I’m not keen on Liking everyone back if their pages don’t fit mine. It’s the same on Twitter. I only follow back people/accounts that have interesting content that jive with mine (associations, tech, career, etc.).

  • i wouldnt bother liking   pages unless i  really wanted to…liking  back?  i always like  a nice comment  other than  that i wouldnt  take the time……..  i  go organic and hope for     more  viewers  because they; actually are interested in my   world….but i already have a base…. and   didnt  get it  by sending out random likes…… @melowout

  • Hello @melowout,

Good topic. I think there is no great value on trying to get likes from niche or complementary sites/blogs/businesses out there.

Imho, you can identify who the right influencers are in your niche and how a relationship can be built with them in order to get more exposure. Influencers with an active social media presence can provide you great value, but you need to think how that is going to result beneficial for both parties.

Hope this comments helps in any way.

    Best!Max.

  • @maximiliano-garcia I see the words “you can identify who the right influencers are in your niche” alot but I’m not sure how to do that – what is a good method?
@melanie-licht – 1st thank you for the Cueler youtube tip I like it much better than the Facebook tab which only allowed one video
as for Likes “Like” exchanges are helpful to increase your page likes especially when you need to meet certain thresholds.
Beyond that I think they hurt engagement (because no one cares about your vertical at that point) which hurts your potential climb  in Edgerank. That said if you want to grow you can run ads – sending the visitors to a likegate page or buy followers. I’ve done both successfully and currently growing at about 1000 fans a month using ads
Unless you’re a national brand growing likes organically is like pouring molasses in winter.

  • Hi @mitch-rezman,

Thanks for the mention. I want to briefly point out something about influencers and maybe hear what others have to say about it, whether agree or not with me.

Influencers can be both from your existing fans base on Facebook and people with certain authority/recognition/popularity on your niche market.

In both cases you need to be actively looking for those influencers. In your fan base could be users that are always active interacting, commenting, sharing your photos. Those are deeply engaged with your brand and it could be of great value for you to reward them from time to time and work closely with them since they are an avenue to bring more people in. They will be happy to recommend you. A complementary method to evaluate this for me is using a Top Fans app that ranks fans according to how active they are.

On the other hand, a personality on your niche market is also important since it could turn to be a valuable brand association that benefits your brand in exposition and also reputation. Once you find him/her, create a proposal for them to build a partnership. It could be having him/her on a Q&A video, a trip with the expert, a series of posts from the expert on your blog or directly on Facebook. Many things. Evaluate what can work better for you.

Well, I hope this help you and many others.

    Best!
    Max.

  • interesting, thank you. You’re right I need to evaluate this.
