Facebook LIKES Being Recycled – Related Posts Appearing in New Feed? (6 posts)

  • http://fyre.it/YKIXwy.2   Facebook Likes Being Recycled?   This is a big concern to me – and should be to others.  So far – I have not found a solution and I’m wondering if anyone else has found it?

I would love to know how it is being randomly applied as it doesn’t appear every time.  Appears to be tied in with Business Pages – - maybe people who have sponsored, promoted, or placed ads?

My news feed is beginning to fill up with these and sponsored stories.  What do you all think about this?

  • I think FB is running out of places to display ads. I believe that there is a difference between smart, quality advertising as opposed to quantity. Seems Facebook is tinkering with the latter. If they stay that course it may be the beginning of the end.

  • im getting  some  stuff on  my  timeline i never signed up for…..which is pretty  bad when im  not getting  all i DID   sign up for…

  • @melowout something to take into account with the Facebook advertising and promoted/sponsored ads is that information is pulling from Bing searches as well. A form of retargetting is appearing on Facebook and causing ads that you may not expect to begin appearing while you are trolling your Facebook newsfeed.

Also, here is an article about a new ad format being tested that could tie into what you are questioning http://www.insidefacebook.com/2013/02/05/facebook-tests-new-sidebar-ad-format-with-horizontal-image-above-body-copy/

  • @alexandrabriggs Thanks Alexandra.  I checked out the link and this is something different – in the sidebar.  This link https://www.facebook.com/help/178245095642127/ is more along the lines I am talking about – this and related posts with the LIKE for the page appearing with it – not necessarily the post/comment/photo a person liked.

It is interesting the information is also being pulled from Bing searches.

The link you included provides a wealth of information on what Facebook is doing, rolling or testing out, and I thank you very much for that!  I’ll be referring to that site much more frequently!

  • @melowout  I agree – I have seen some strange looking posts that are “associated” with my friends because they may have Liked the Page.  And it’s scary to think what might be happening “on your behalf”

The frustrating thing to me is that you can’t “opt-out” of sponsored stories.  But I believe that if you chose to show your Page Likes to no one then you will probably not be featured in any sponsored stories.  I haven’t tested that and it would be fairly difficult to verify independently.  But I think that’s the way I read it in Facebook’s help section that they only show what is already available on your profile (ie what pages you Like)
