Facebook Insights “Unique Visits to Page” (8 posts)

  • I have (another) question regarding Facebook Insights.

I was wondering about “Unique Visits to Page”. Facebook says it’s the number of unique people visiting my page on each day during the specified time (@30 days).

    So, my question is…

If 140 unique people visited my page on 10/10 will they be counted again as a “unique visit” if they visit my page again on 10/15? Meaning they are ONLY unique on the day they visit and NOT unique for that 30 day period.

If this is the case is there a metric that counts a visitor as unique only once during the specified 30 day time period.

One of the pages I manage requires the employees to engage with the page. So I’d like to know if these Unique Visits are really the employees engaging w/ the page every day.

Thanks in advance for your input.

  • @lydiamediavilla,

After researching the topic I have found an article that may help you with your solution: http://ads.ak.facebook.com/ads/creative/insights/page-insights-guide.pdf

Page 13 states it all depends on the range that you set. So if you have a 30 day unique range and 140 unique visitors land on your page on 10/10/2012 and the same visitors come again on 10/15/2012, you should be counted for 140 unique visitors as well as 280 page views. The graph given in the PDF I have supplied you on page 13 is a pretty clear indication that this is how their analytics system is setup.

So the visitors should only be counted once per unique date range. If we had the same situation but the unique range was 4 days, then you would have 280 unique visitors and some odd page views. Like I said, it should all depend on the unique date range.

    Hope this helps!

  • @lydiamediavilla They will only count once during that time period, Lydia.

Thanks for your input Trent & Russel! So do I understand this correctly…

    • Facebook Insights are showing metrics for 9/18 through 10/15.
    • If fan A visits my page on 10/10
    • And Unique Visits on 10/10 is 50
    • Then fan A is included in the 50 Unique Visits.
    • Also if fan A returns to the page on 10/15.
    • And Unique Visits on 10/15 is 100.
    • Then fan A is included in the 100 Unique Visits.
    • If there are no more visits to the page during this time period (thankfully this is NOT the case)
    • then the total Unique Visits between 9/18 & 10/15 is 150
    • and Fan A is counted twice.
    Do I have this right?

  • @lydiamediavilla A fan will only ever be counted once as a unique visitor for a specific time period. It all depends on the time periods you are looking at.

So, if you are looking at Monday to Friday and a person visited for the first time on Monday and then again on Wednesday, then you would see 1 unique visitor and 2 page views.

If you changed the days you were looking at from Wednesday to Friday, then you would see 1 unique visitor and 1 page view.

    Does that make sense?

    Russ

  • @russellallert Perfect sense! Thanks for breaking it down to the simplest form :DMuch appreciated!

  • @lydiamediavilla That’s what I do. :)

  • Thanks – this is very clear. It works like Google analytics then, right?
