  • The husband of a friend of mine is a tv personality. Someone has posted a fan page pretending to be him. They can not figure out who this is, but he/she is really good at it and seems to know a lot about upcoming episodes etc (maybe someone on the inside?). Anyway, does anyone have any experience with this? They have tried contacting Facebook and they have not gotten any response. Thank you!

  • @leecg – I have never had to deal with this myself, but I do have a link for you to try.  Click here and there are instructions as to how to deal with imposter accounts.

I hope they get this resolved soon!

  • @lisaschulteis Thank you! I saw that and I just sent them an email to see if they had tried it. I will keep you posted and thanks again!

  • @leecg – I hope it works!

  • @lisaschulteis yes that works…Twitter has their own procedures too which can be useful in recapturing a username

  • There are an absolute ton of imposter sites out there.  Fact is anyone can create a fan site and make it look like it is an official site of that person/brand/personality.  There are some clever marketers out there who build these kinds of pages up and then eventually promote ads for commissions.

Will be interesting to see what, if anything, Facebook does about these in the future.  Facebook is absolutely infested with these kinds of pages.

If you have not seen the case about the guy who is being sued by his former employer for ownership of their Twitter account, check it out here.

  • @ifenwick Ian, do you happen to know if facebook has the same way of addressing duplicate places? There is a “place” for our company that is not connected to our company business page at all. It shows employees of the company from those who stated they have worked here but there is not a way (that I have found) to connect this “place” with our company page. I have been unsuccessful in trying to find a solution and wonder if any of you may have insight?

  • @leecg @mikebrooks @alexandrabriggs

Wow! I knew the potential was there, but until this posting and not heard of it actually happening. Sad!

I hope it works out Lee!!!

  • thank you all for your advice and thoughts on this! they are out of the country right now, so when they get home I am going to send them this info. I will keep you guys posted :)
