Facebook have removed the share link from content posted via an application (10 posts)

  • Will you still be automating some of your Facebook posts?

  • @pollybingham I will never automate my posts.

My opinion is that my fans deserve special attention so they deserve a couple of lines where I write to them. You also need a CTA.

Status updates with 100-200 letters gets 60% more engagement than status updates with more than 250 letters. So I guess it’s a short introduction and a CTA. I also sign with me name to make it personal.

You can’t achieve this with auto posting.

    Hope that helps.

  • @pollyb No I won’t.  I did used to send some things from Hootsuite occasionally because it was easier but unfortunately we will have to just post manually.

  • @pollyb I never automate my posts for Facebook. :)

But thanks for the heads up, Polly!

  • That may have been a Facebook fluke. I just checked my page. Some of my posts are manual, some are Hootsuite and some are RSS Graffiti. The share link is under most of them. However, it is missing under two posts that were done manually!

Earlier today, I noticed the share link was missing under a post sent by a friend and that was a manual post.

    So, I’m thinking it’s a temporary glitch.

I do depend on Hootsuite as I post 3-4 times a day. My engagement thrives when I post this often whether it is manual or automatic. I know we are supposed to be penalized by 3rd party apps, but it allows me to post every 3-4 hours and keep things in a queue. Works best for me and my clients.

  • Interesting opinions here!

  • OK, I think I have it figured out. Remember back a bit when the only time the share link showed was then there was a link in the post? That is what seems to be happening now. If there is only text and no link to a photo or web or blog or video, then the share link does not appear.

Take a look at your pages and see if this seems true to you.

  • @michellefontaine

Nice one! The moral of the story then is to post more photos or videos with links?

  • Another point. Inbound links are so important for our websites. Linking to blogs that are inside our sites or are out sites, or linking to our own content in our websites provides very good SEO juice. So, yes, links are good ;)

  • @pollyb I use the twitter app to forward my tweets to Facebook. I don’t plan to stop since I don’t tweet every hour put I will repost my more engaging tweets on my page now that I know this! Thanks!
