Facebook has changed your email address to @facebook.com! (8 posts)

  • This morning, I was looking at my “About” section on my personal facebook page, and I noticed my email was listed as: warrenveach@facebook.com. (You may remember facebook rolling out their email service a year or so ago.)

Since I didn’t remember ever doing that, I started checking around, and through Forbes, discovered facebook removed everyone’s email addresses from their profile and inserted an “@facebook.com” email.

Here’s how to get your desired emails back on your profile:

    1. Go to the “About” section of your profile.
    2. Go down to the section with your email info, and click “Edit”.
    3. When you click the circles next to the email addresses, you will see “Shown on timeline” or Hidden from timeline”.
    4. Choose which emails you want to be seen, and which you want to be hidden (i.e. @facebook.com)
    5. Be sure to click “Save” when you are done!

  • I forgot to mention that the email address to which the “Official” facebook notification are sent were not changed in facebooks system, so you will still get notification sent to your regular email.

Also, it doesn’t appear the emails on fan pages were affected either.

  • Thanks Warren!

  • Thanks @warrenveach – yes this only affects the e-mail listed on your About page – so if you want it switched back then you have to manually do it.  Facebook sure is bizarre when they want to make sweeping changes without warning.

  • @warrenveach  Thanks for this update info.  Will check it out later today.

  • Are you saying that the URL for facebook has changed? JT Bryant

  • @jtbryant

Not the url, just the email address on your personal profile page.

For example, if you set your facebook account up with jt@yahoo.com as your email address, on your profile page, facebook changed it to jt@facebook.com.

  • Update to this topic, Facebook Apologizes for not being “clear” on the email switch.

I am of the opinion that if Facebook wasn’t trying to get you to use its email, then why switch at all?!
