Facebook feeds – Please explain. (7 posts)

  • I am still struggling with this concept and this is the number one -numero uno – reason for being on Facebook – sharing and seeing feeds accurately.

    Right?

I have noticed that my personal page has up-to-date feeds (as a personal page) but my business, or fan, page (even liking exactly the same pages as my personal page) does not display any of these updates/feeds/

Why? Am still searching for a reason other than Facebook has screwed us over again and is trying to restrict pages and make more money from advertising.

There are vast differences between the way fan pages and personal pages work and since i was forced to convert my personal page into a fan page i have really noticed the difference.

I used to have 100 likes on the very same kind of posts I now struggle to get 1 on – on my fan page. Exactly the same content, the same audience, the only variable is the way the page functions and shares my news with my fans.

For example, I have people who like (and love) my page saying every couple of months “where have you been?”. Well I’ve been busy posting, liking, sharing, updating right here all along. Very frustrating.

Anyone have anything on this? It’s pretty important right?

I also noticed that ‘notifications’ on fan pages don’t refresh and you have to manually refresh your page to see them as opposed to personal pages. Oh AND the notifications are bundled so if 15 people have liked 1 of your posts it only has one notification for that item of news etc.  Unlike personal pages.

One little happy tip for those who didn’t know – if you post an image larger than the FB column image size and it crops it, you can actually click edit post and move the image around within the viewable window area.

  • @sheridanmills, just to understand you correctly: you are just as active on other pages as your page as you are as your personal profile?

  • @claudiapoeckl

Hmm, not sure I understand the question. Yes, I am extremely active on my fan page. Way more active than on my personal page in terms of liking things, posting, commenting, etc. Both pages ‘like’ the very same ‘other’ pages but only 1 percent of the feeds from those pages show up on my fan page as opposed to 100 percent on my personal page.

Why? Because Facebook have restricted us. Unless of course you have more information.

And yes I have read up on this and have seen the bull— statements from Facebook employees who say that nothing has changed and blah blah. Of course they are going to say that.

Anyone? Any information on this? I can;t believe no one can comment on this topic, this is way more important of an issue than some of the other items I see floating around grr.

    Very frustrated.

  • @sheridanmills

there are quite a few recent threads on this topic.. we are all super frustrated!!

  • There are a lot of theories on the drop in reach.  I think the big question is
@sheridanmills whether or not there is a drop in engagement and it sounds like you are definitely seeing that!

Here’s a post I like because it outlines several theories and attempts to find out what is going on: http://blog.getpostrocket.com/2012/10/whats-going-on-with-your-facebook-page-reach-postrockets-take/

  • Thanks for posting this article that I wrote @andrea-vahl ! I’m glad you found this helpful and I hope others in this thread did too!  Would love to hear any other feedback you have about my company’s blog (what you hate as well as what you love!).

  • @andrea-vahl @itsmikemags

Michael, do you work for Facebook? Are you being paid by Mark? Getting something out of your relationship with Facebook.

I just read that article (well kind of shut off after the start) and i am sick of reading rubbish articles like this. This provides no answer only perpetuates what we already know, or don’t know, makes FB sound ‘good’? and gives you a few hits on your website. I’m sick of it.

Trust you you say? Really. Produce good content you say? Really. I am amazed. Btw I just posted in another post the whole 10% question and am asking if this is again, true, or not true and what this means…could be all part of the same problem here. Hundreds of hours work, wasted.

    Over it.
