facebook drop (7 posts)

  • good post here….. http://www.jeffdoak.com/facebook-quietly-destroys-half-the-value-of-your-brand-page-overnight/

this is  so  major….  so much of my work   work   down the  drain…and i dont see  a very good plot  yet…

i feel  for the  social media  pros     out there tryin g to  explain  this to  their  clients who  want   their numbers to go  UP!!!   not  crash…

we have  dropped about  30%% … now im lucky to get 800 when i used to get over  1000 several times a week, out of  3000 fans….

  • Thanks for sharing, @annfurnivall. It seems this topic is becoming more urgent with every new day. I will start working harder on the other social media platforms and maybe I should even consider using MySpace. Getting ready for the time when Facebook becomes commercially uninteresting for small businesses…

  • I am very frustrated by this as well, @annfurnivall  I don’t have any good answers.  I found this article that I like because it offers some different theories: http://blog.getpostrocket.com/2012/10/whats-going-on-with-your-facebook-page-reach-postrockets-take/  But again, none of it is good news, the reach is still down.

I’m wondering if small businesses are going to get too frustrated with it,
@claudiapoeckl and leave.  I’ve actually been really liking LinkedIn’s new look.

  • i cant see  abandoning   facebook since thats where my customers  are….. now if they  were abandoning it  that would  be  different….

hopefully its  early days and  some new   plots  will emerge……

@andrea-vahl i read  your   facebook page about this too….good info…

  • My personal suggestion…

A business that depends or benefits from Facebook to a large degree, whether it is you @annfurnivall or anyone else should try to find a more independent form of keeping in contact with their fans.  As you see the numbers change and FB charging to promote posts, it just goes to show what direction FB is headed.  They have control over a lot more than what we actually see in our analytics.  Although it is still a free source and should still be used effectively I think it would be best to create a place or offerings where your true fans can keep their appetite for your content.  The question is, where is that other place?  It all depends on what you have to offer and what your strong points in socializing is.

  • @claudiapoecki, @annfurnivall, – I already had Google+ and Pinterest on my to-do list. They’ve just moved up a lot higher to the top.

@andrea-vahl – thanks for the info. I found the PostRocket post interesting though I deeply dislike the smug tone – “suck it up and create better content.” I know that the change is real because even though the Reach stats have never been reliable, the numbers of people engaging with my posts by liking, commenting, and sharing have plummeted. I’ve lost between 70 and 90 percent of engagement. People can’t engage with what they can’t see.

I understand that Facebook needs to make money, but I would rather pay an annual fee for a Page than endure FB’s constant machinations to try.to get promoted posts. I could put the annual fee into my budget just like I have a budget for my e-newsletter.

  • @melissaholmes,i agree on   not having all your  eggs in one basket…. actually i have a lot of independant ways to  keep in  touch with my  customers….but i love  facebook  TOO… i keep in contact/market to    my  fans  thru snail mail to our  big database  , about  4000$$ a  year just in the stamps for  4  mailings a yr….,  monthly email,  billboards and a  very well recieved website..and   face to face   interaction…..so im not  doing  just  facebook .  ….  but facebook is  wonderful and   offfers   such a great  interaction in our  case……and  i  want to keep it…..

and like  <a href="mailto:l@bamacrobie“>@bamacrobie i would   sure  be willing to go  for  a fee  structure  to  be on  facebook..but  i was and am  glad to   enjoy its  freeness, as it  was offered to  us… …

and i  agree with  BA,,,,  the problem  isnt  better  content…. my  content  was working just  fine   ,now its not   nearly  working as well….  i hope  BA and  everybody  will   keep posting   things  that  might  help in this  wierd  situation…. i  feel  pretty   frustrated but  dont want to give it up…
