Facebook Campaign Metrics (7 posts)

  • I’m coming up with a campaign that utilize Social Media channels (facebook and twitter) as an engagement platform with the target audience and I need to prepare a weekly social media report that will show the performance of the campaign. I am planning to use Facebook Insights for measurement. My question is what would be the best metrics in Facebook insights that I should use to measure Engagement and Reach. There are a lot of metrics in facebook insights and I find it very confusing. It would be great if anyone could help me on this. It would also be great if you could share some samples of spreadsheets. Thanks.

  • @sitisarahariffin any time I am looking at measuring campaigns across social media I have an additional criteria layered on to determine results. I compare engagement with our CRM database of prospects and track results within the CRM to easily pull data. You will want to create an overall strategy for your campaign and that should help you determine which metrics are most important and will help you think through how to get to that data. I have been using the SOSTAC (http://www.businessballs.com/pr_smiths_sostac_planning_method.htm) model to help me strategize lately.

    Hope this helps some

  • @sitisarahariffin i find it confusing  too….but mainly look at what  got the most   connections….. and i get  that  from the  graph of  the posts.in the  facebook insights…that  really  shows  me a lot…

  • Not sure if your campaign will lead anyone to your business URL, but if it does, I’d suggest also doing some analysis from Google Analytics for your site to see if people are coming to the site after engaging on Facebook.

From your description if engagement is your top criteria, I’d suggest “People Talking about this” and “Engaged Users” per post. That also can help you see which posts topics are most engaging and also test with timing of posts to see when people are most talkative. One of my favorite and simplest numbers that I enjoy is the “shares” on each individual post in the timeline.

Wish you the best on your campaign.

  • My favorite stat is the People Talking About this on each post.  The other metrics are just slight variations of this same idea.  The big thing is to pick one of them and consistently benchmark. Good luck with your campaign and let us know how it goes!  @sitisarahariffin

  • @sitisarahariffin

On the main overview page of your insights, there are two specific areas for both engagement and reach by post.

I typically keep an eye on the reach tab as it has a ton of great information such as demographics to keep your messages on target with you audience, reach – organic, paid and viral, tab views to see what information your audience is accessing and external referrers to see where people are coming from outside of Facebook.

With what you’re looking for I would think the overview tab would probably answer all of your questions.

  • Hi all,

Thank you so much for the great insights. Yes, I do agree with all of you on the metrics that all of you have mentioned here. I think engagement metrics at posts level would be great as I am not in control of other posts that are made by the client. My client is using Omniture. Anyone has experience working with Omniture? what’s the difference between Omniture and Google Analytics in terms its reporting metrics on social media?
