Facebook and Twitter (6 posts)

  • Okay. I’ve set up the “Selective Tweets” function on my Twitter account. I do not necessarily want every tweet to end up on my Facebook Fan Page. Hence, the use of “selective tweets.”

The question that I have is how to set up the Facebook Page to automatically send posts to my Twitter feed (event invitations etc). It seems that if I activate the Twitter app, it seems to de-activate my “selective tweet” function.

In other words, I’d like to send my Facebook Page posts to Twitter without disabling my “selective tweets” function.

Help!! Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • @brianjohns are you saying that you are going to post some of your tweets to your Facebook Page?

If you are then I think you’re making a mistake. I think that putting tweets on a Facebook Page is probably one of the biggest sins. They look ugly on a Facebook Page and rarely helpful at all. Tweets are for twitter only in my opinion.

  • I’m only talking about “selective tweets” as in retweeting related martial arts events to my Facebook Page.

Now, back to my original question…………..

  • @brianjohns,

I think this is what you’re looking for.

  • @brianjohns Hi Brian

My advice is just don’t do it at all.

Each social media site is unique, and by this I mean the structure, the way it works, and the people and how they use it.

The only way I would do this (and have done) is to send your Facebook posts to Twitter.

You need to engage on each platform you use, and sending tweets (even selected ones) to your Facebook page is really lazy and will lead to very little interaction in my experience.

  • @brianjohns  I’m not sure how Twitter’s ‘selective tweets’ function works, but if you really want some of your tweets to post to Facebook, why not post them through a tool such as Hootsuite where you can just check multiple profiles for the update to post to? I prefer to rewrite it a couple of times (slightly differently) for each platform, but even that’s much easier to do all from one place where you write one after the other. I also use the Facebook app that sends Facebook posts to Twitter for some clients, but not the other way around.
