Facebook Advertising Budget (10 posts)

Topic tags: Advertising, Budget
  • Hi everyone! I would love your input on the following: Im working on setting up our FB page for a startup company. And we are going to use FB ads to attract fans to our FB page. How much should we spend on it? We have the resources to spend all from 100-2000$ on ads, but we would of course love to spend as little as possible to attract as many fans as possible.. any tips and or thoughts on how we should do this?

  • @idamarlene If it’s your first ad, I’d say start with how ever much you’re not worried about loosing (which for most is probably around 100-200 $$)

    hope this helps!~Devani

  • Thanks, yea that gives me a better picture on where to start! I appreciate the help:)

  • @idamarlene, you might also want to consider narrowing the start and runs dates for the ad (run it Friday through Sunday if you’re hoping to attract people during work off hours, or start it Monday if you’re targeting weekday Facebook people).

Managing the run dates/times of the ad might help to keep your ad expenditure down and/or provide you the ability to review, compare, assess, and plan for future ad dates and times.

  • Also ~ right before a major holiday or event, cost per click prices go up.

My first campaign last year began right after Father’s Day and cost per click was pretty low.  The campaign made it about 5 weeks on $150.00.

My second campaign started at the beginning of August (Back-to-schools sales were starting everywhere).  That campaign only lasted 3 weeks on $150.00 because more people were advertising so the cost per click rate went up.

  • @Holly Elliott, @Dedi Mason, thank you so much for great input and help on the topic. I will definitely take that into consideration when Im running my ads.

  • I’d like to tag a question to Ida’s: I purchased just one day of ads as a test.  I was disappointed, to say the least, with the people who ‘liked’ my page.  Sure, it nudged my #’s up, but they weren’t potential clients AT ALL; I could tell that just by their locations not here in the Bay Area.  So my question is:  Then why, other than raising #’s would ANYone ever want to  pay for ads?  On the HOPE that it MIGHT bring clients due to raised #’s?

  • I’ve love to discuss the options more… detailing drilling down to age groups, locations, and whether to use a link or sponsored story, lately it’s become more complicated to get an ad right, for the right price.
Would love feedback on these additional criteria.

  • @idamarlene When you get a sec. let us know who the target demographic is, that’s where I usually start to determine a budget. Abstractly the budget should be enough for the analyst to really figure things out (enough data points) but a number you are comfortable spending.

@barbc Did you geo-target? Not sure why you would get out of range folks, post some details when you get a second. As far as the second part — we urge b2c clients to advertise on Facebook, b2b clients generally must talk us into running campaigns for them. It can work, but must be a good reason.

As a side-note; sending users to a tab on the Facebook profile has always outperformed sending them to the website in our experience. Also if you can include a picture of a puppy it will increase click through rate (I’m being serious.)

  • My boss has given me a budget of $1000 a month for FB ads. Is it worth spending this much to start with? Plan to promote a contest at the same time.

Would love some feedback. This is a hotel group in Cancun http://www.facebook.com/OasisHotelsENG

    Thanks!
