  • A question for Facebook ad pros:

I have tried a number of Facebook ads, and have seen a pattern.  I get a burst of likes in the beginning and then it dies down within a few days.  Why is that?

Any best practices you would like to share?

    Thanks,

    Sherry

  • @snouraini Hi Sherry

That’s pretty normal. I never run the same ad longer than 2 days.

I will either tweak it or run a completely new ad after that time. People lose interest pretty quickly with ads and it is best practice to change ads frequently.

Changing them could mean anything from swapping the image, to changing the target audience, to altering the copy.

    Hope that helps. :)

  • @snouraini Hi Sherry,
I totally agree with Russell and have seen this happen so many times. I start a campaign for a client and this massive wave of Likes happens, I become a hero and the job is considered done. Then after 7 days or so the number of likes drops significantly. It is as though the ads have stopped showing.
    Here are my tips.
    1. Always start with two ads. Use the same copy but a different image. After 5 days check out which one has had the most impressions and change the other one. Give the new ad a different headline or change the picture.
    2. Check the display setting for your ads. Only display it for people who have not liked your site. This way it only gets shown to potential likers.
    Hope this helps.

  • @John Mayers and @John Mayers Thank you so much for your help!  This definitely was helpful!

  • I just wrote an e-book for Hubspot on Facebook ads that you can access here:  http://www.hubspot.com/how-to-create-killer-facebook-ads/  It’s free.  But yes, I don’t recommend running the same ad for more than 3-4 days.  Then they need to be rotated.  You can come back to it if it performed well but keep it fresh.

  • Thank you @andrea-vahl for the free ebook on fb ads! It is much appreciated.

  • I have an eBook in draft form that anyone is welcome to. Graphics are not yet added.  Would love feedback before I finalize. I have an eBook in draft form that anyone is welcome to. And  @andrea-vahl – I would love to have you weigh in – mine is for a targeted niche – although the same principles apply.

You do get the burst at first – partly because FB helps you out a bit and gives you 1000 quick impressions.  Shake up the ad after 48 hours.

  • @andrea-vahl  Thank you so much for the link to the paper.

    @Russell Allert  @andrea-vahl @John Mayers

Do you see more impressions during weekends or is it just my ad?

    Thanks for your input

  • Andrea – LOVE your FB Ads ebook – everything you create is golden!  Always such great content and strategies…  Thanks, friend!

  • Being that I haven’t ran an ad yet on facebook, this is a great help. Thanks!

  • Im just about to setting up our FB business page, and all of the above tips is helping me a lot! thanks guys! One question, would you recommend starting out with ads for a new page? or should we wait until things are “floating” a bit more until we start pushing ads out? Our business is in beta private so we havent started with SM marketing yet, but we are getting very close to launching. I appreciate all feedback.

  • @ndonelly ~ Even though I’ve done ad campaigns, your ebook has taught me things I didn’t know.  Thanks for that link!

  • @dedimason.   Thanks – of course, FB likes to change things up so you alwaus have to keep updated on what they’re up to.  Glad it helped.  :)

    Hello Guys,

Great conversation going on about Facebook ads.

I have an interesting experience with Facebook ads and I am really confused about the authenticity of most FB likes.

I am running a FB ad campaign targeting very specific people such as “For Smart Indians” and this is what exactly written on the FB Ad Picture very prominently.

Targeting area of this ad is Canada.

    Results:

    1. Got about 50 likes but none of them are indian2. When I check few profiles of the people who liked the page have liked thousands of pages such as 1700 likes, 2300 likes etc.

Tested this add in couple of other locations as well, got the same result.

    My question is:

When I am targeting a particular audience with clear instructions on the ad “Smart Indians” I should get some of those fans as well as others.

Does anyone know what could be the reason of this?

Thanks for your help in advance.

    Best Regards

You can have a look on type of fans I am getting with Facebook ads:

    https://www.facebook.com/raindancerob

10K Likes ( I am wondering how much time do you need to achieve this status)

  • @rshahbaz Yes, that profile to me looks fake because they like 10,000 pages.  It may have been set up just for the purpose of Liking Pages (for people who buy Likes)

But I think it’s very strange that a Facebook Ad would get this type of person to Like your Page.  These types of accounts are usually not interacting with Facebook ads but just puppet accounts.

Facebook Ads usually yield very targeted Likes for me of people who all look real.  Plus if you have set up a Facebook Ad you should be able to target a region.  Are you looking at finding Indians who live worldwide or just in India?
    Very strange!

  • @andrea-vahl thank you Andrea for your reply.

This id is just one of the example, got lots of this type of likes using Facebook ads.

I picked up this because I am targeting Indian who lives in Canada / USA / Europe and I am getting likes from people who are not indians at all even though my ad specifically states for “Indians” only.

  • @andrea-vahl here is another one: https://www.facebook.com/mcpaglinawan?sk=wall

check the like activity on the wall.

  • @andrea-vahl, thank you very much for sharing the link to your fabulous eBook. I devoured it the instant i downloaded it. I’m about to start an ad campaign for my 2 pages and i would need your advice on the following questions:

    1. I’m promoting a membership program for building an online business and when i input “Making money online” or ” Earn money online” in the Precise Interest box, a pop-up window appears to let me select the relevant interest. If i select either one or both, i noticed the estimated reach is only less than 20. But if i were to type in the exact interest and NOT select the same option from the pop-up window, i’ll get a very much higher reach. My question is why should there be a big difference in the estimated reach figure between the typed interest and the selected interest as both interests are exactly the same?
    2. Where can i select the option for the duration of my ad campaign as i can’t find any option in facebook ad page?
    3. As for the “Connections on Facebook”, may i know what’s the difference between “Anyone” and ” Only people who are not fans of my page” ? To me, both options are the same.
Any help from anyone is welcome too. Thanks and looking forward to some good advice.

  • @andrea-vahl, Can you be so kind to respond to me as i need your answer before i can proceed?

@rshahbaz, @johnmayers,  can you guys please share your view on my inquiries? Thanks.
