Facebook Accountability Group – Increased Posts (49 posts)

  • Hi all!

I want to do something here that is inspired by @randithompson – doing some “experiments” on our Facebook Pages that are designed to grow our Likes/Engagement and report back with the results.  I was thinking about having the first one start this week and we all do something different for 5 days and measure what is happening.

My first thought was to increase the number of posts each day.  You can increase the frequency however you like.  So if you are doing 1 post per day, increase it to at least 2.  Or you can choose to bump it up even more.  Take your benchmarks of Likes and Talking About This numbers before you start.

Let us know if you are participating and what you are doing this week.  Then at the end of the week, report your results.  Who’s game?

  • Great idea!! Changing time of day later might be interesting also! =)

  • I like it.

  • sounds interesting…i would probably   try for   much  better pictures and put hard  thought on   choosing  the  subject… ….not  sure i would have the time to do it  right tho…i settle  for inferior pictures a lot..becasue of time…..and  small skills.

  • Good initiative, this way we can determine if any of our(or our member’s) experiment works or not, and this is what we call social media marketing…marketing to benefit the social community/society not just you or me :)

  • I’m going to record my stats here now so I can keep track LOLI’m going to use Grandma Mary’s Page http://www.facebook.com/GrandmaMaryShowCurrently I’m posting 3 times/day to that on average.  I’m going to up it to 5 times per day with a minimum of 2 humorous posts.  Likes:  3520Talking About This:  363  (10.3%)Feel free to start your recording or just report back with the results!

  • Ok I’m going to give this one a shot to see what happens! I will increase my postings by 3 a day, I am currently doing 1 and will mix it up with industry specific, humor, newsworthy to see what happens!

  • Great topic, @andrea-vahl

I will admit, when I first starting adding posts to my two business pages, I was afraid.  Now, I can see that it has made a HUGE difference.  The numbers of fans who now see the posts are much higher.  Considering that now we are lucky if 16% of our fans see our posts, this is a good thing.

I now post 6 times a day on one page.  3 of the posts are light.  Such as photos or quotes.  The other 3 are more serious with advice and so on.

The other business page was pretty much dead.  While I focused on the first one, I was posting sometimes once a week.  All I shared were my Youtube videos.  I started posting there 3 times a day and am now doing 4 because of the results. Again, half the posts are lighter.

It is really the lighter posts that are going out on the newsfeeds the most by being shared.  Since the name of the page is “tagged/hyper linked” with the photo, it follows where it goes and people who I would never have access to can see the pages and decide if they want to click on those magic blue words to find out more.

I am also using the Facebook Post Schedule Feature which makes life so much easier.  How to Schedule Facebook Posts  I start my posting at 8 am EST to 11 PM Est so that I cover both sides of the USA.

I have tried both the Facebook Ads, and the Promoted Posts and have never had the response that I am having with adding more posts.  Who would have thought?

Has anyone else tried this yet?

    Randi

  • I AM  GOING TO  TRY  ADDING A THIRD POST A DAY AND   WORK harder on my pictures and make  one   post   on the social  side….  …..  right now i have  2968 likes and  303  talking about this…..

    is there a prize?!!!!

  • Great idea!  I have noticed that “funny” posts drive engagement – so I’m going to try and find more of those.  Anything that gets them to or keeps them on the page is great.  Maybe this will discipline me.  :)

  • @andrea-vahl, I’m in! For one account I will try to increase the weekly status updates. For another account I will try to increase the daily updates (also checking what effect the different hours of the day will have).

  • Any results to report from the past week?  @heatherperkins @jamesalonso @annfurnivall @ndonelly @claudiapoeckl @randithompson

I found that 7 of my top 10 posts were funny picture from the last week.  But it’s difficult to not just get into humor but also deliver some value!  My Likes are at 3561 so 41 new Likes but my Talking about This number actually went down a bit at 325.  I did just come off an period of Advertising so that may have contributed.  All in all very interesting.  Let us know if you had results!

  • It is strange how people seem to prefer the photos/quotes or funny posts.  Now that I have been doing this a few weeks I am finding that little by little, more people are starting to comment on the posts.  I add a question to any photo that I add that ties back to the page I am sharing it on.  For example, with the the business page, I add something about business, for the horse page, something about how it relates to the training of horses and riders. I think that this makes those photo more productive.  Without adding our own special message, they are just photos.

It is fun seeing how this is working for everyone!

I do not believe the numbers most of the time @andrea-vahl as they change so much.  I also had a big drop last week, than a few days later, with the same activity, it went up a bit.

I think the Facebugs are running around behind our screens!

I am still keeping up with the scheduled posts (video link on how to do them) and find they make this easier.

I have also started adding marketing tips to my non business page and was surprised that people take an interest in them.

My counts this week are way off because we had a contest.  Now that it is over, I can go back to keeping track of what is going on in real time.

  • my likes are  3016 so up 48….and  my  talking about this  358 up 55……i didnt  get any  great pictures  but  did a couple of  albums  which are always  good…also posted a little  more…..  i  think i will have  some even better pictures  coming up…..

all this   copyright talk    had  me kind of  spooked  for posting  silly  jokes i  find  on   facebook…..  so im dont have a lot of  funny  stuff….my  best post was about something we have   showing   fat  swimming ladies…. i did ask a question…that was pretty  good…i did  an information post  too… dull  but   maybe  good…and  connected  it to  one of our  tabs…

no ads….and i would  worry about posting  5  times a day….butim going for  3….best  time is  definitely  evening…

im  not  sure   what my average new likes are a week…

  • Strange enough, I noticed a decrease in interactions (likes and comments) during the last days but it could be due to the fact that the school summer holidays just started and the weather was incredibly hot. So many people left on vacation with their kids. And in general people move slowly (or not at all), hang out outside for cool drinks or at the pool if time permits. We’ll see how this continues…

  • claudia….most of  my posts  were under  their normal percent too….and  traffic in our store  was  way off last week  too…???? @claudiapoeckl

  • Funny pictures work.  This from  a page with 1896 likes.

Of course now I’m worried about copyright infringement after reading another post somewhere…..

  • But I haven’t been keeping it up….discipline, discipline, discipline!!

  • Checking in.  The numbers continue to rise!

Since June 17th we have had one contest and one post go viral.  The contest did not include a fan gate on the app as I only want “targeted fans” people who are using Facebook for promoting their business.  The contest was fun, it was for photos.

I have been keeping up with the posts, especially the Scheduled Posts. They make life much easier. I did all my posts for the week in two hours yesterday for two business pages. 5 a day for HTMYHB and 4 a day for Horse and Rider Awareness.

HTMYHB (had a contest)  Since June 17th I have picked up 213 new fans.
My people talking about this went up 1298. The contest lasted 11 days and the amount of fans did not pick up anymore than the week before or after. I think the difference is in the posting I have added.

Horse and Rider Awareness. Since June 17th. (this page was pretty much dead and before I started this, was down to 35 people talking about this.) 97 new fans. People talking about this up 42. There are 1612 fans so a reach of 1155 is pretty good!

It has been interesting to see what is happening with a page that was active, HTMYHB and my other business page Horse and Rider Awareness (HARA)  The HARA page had basically been sitting there for months as I was focused on HTMYHB.  Now that it has picked up I need to start adding apps and update the Cover Image.  It is in a much smaller niche than HTMYHB but the results are pretty amazing for such a little page.

    How is everyone else doing?

    Randi

  • Almost forgot!  This will be good news for many.  During this time I also discovered that FB is letting us share more posts in different ways.  We cannot schedule them…but, we can now share our posts with other people’s Timelines and Groups!  I can share posts from my pages or other people’s.

This is a short video I did on how it works:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2gEWSxfnH8

  • @andrea-vahl @randithompson I have a question for you regarding Facebook’s scheduled posts…specifically when scheduling a post with a photo. I’ve noticed that Facebook puts the photos of any scheduled post in an album called “Photos”. This is a problem for me and I assume for all of you as well. For example, if my client has a new flyer for a promo and I schedule a post which explains the promo and has the flyer (image) attached, the post doesn’t show as an individual post on fan feeds. It shows as if I’ve added a new picture to the “Photo” album, therefore not showing fans the text that goes along with the image.

I’ve tried to go into thie “Photo” album and edit it so that I can move the picture to the “wall photos” album but facebook does not allow you to do this. Have any of you noticed this?

    Thanks.

  • Yes, I found that out also. Very frustrating as I have been away from my computer a lot lately having to care for my father in law at his home. He doesn’t have internet service so I schedule the majority of my posts now and monitor/comment from my phone. I like to post photos during the day since they tend to generate more interest. I just bought a tether app for my android so I can use my laptop but it’s not the same as a good connection.

Hope FB realizes this and changes the way the photos show up on scheduled posts.

  • @randithompson sounds  great  randi!!!  2  questions,  what   was  your  contest?    and   where  do  you  get  quality pictures  and what are  your  vews on   posting  pictures  from other places?

im at  3059 fans  rignt now  …it was  3016  about  a week ago  so thats about    40  new  fans last week….  i think i usually  get  40 to 50  new ones a week…i cant  keep  track of all this…too busy and not that  easy  for me to keep  track…….im working on a  pretty  good group of pictures and  will be  doing a  promoted post soon…. having   trouble  finding  fun posts  with  only  my own pictures…..  they seem to relate to the product posts more anyway…im thinking  about   trying   randis idea  of ..  like if  you can see this…loved  your  picture  on that idea  randi!!   it.    feels  a little   forward  to me tho…..

  • I’m at over 2400 fans – up from under 1900 about a week ago before posting the “funny picture” so posting “off topic” does build  your base.  Also shows your personality I think.  ANd it’s all free growth.

  • @jamesalonso @lorithueme Definitely frustrating since the photos with a post get the most interaction but we can’t schedule them!

  •  :( Thanks for responding,  @andrea-vahl I’m resorting to scheduling only links and keeping the rest manual as usual.

  • @ndonelly wow….great numbers….

  • @annfurnivall thank you.  Yes, I was very pleased,  And thank you to @andrea-vahl as I wouldn’t have gotten that increase without the inspiration from this post.

  • That is really incredible @ndonelly!

  • @andrea-vahl – yes, I was pleasantly surprised and sure appreciated your creating this thread!

  • @jamesalonso  I have noticed that.  All you can do is not schedule those posts…. of course, there may be another way but I do not know.  Maybe someone else here does?

    Randi

  • @annfurnivall  The contest was called the “HTMYHB Best Business Photo Contest”  It was a way for me to help my fans focus more on the photos they are using to promote their business.  I used it as a teaching tool by encouraging them to “stretch” their marketing muscles and to promote their photos in ways that they may not have promoted before on Facebook.  They used photos from their business.

What do I think about photo sharing?  I wish that all the photographers would mark their photos!   There are so many great photos in the newsfeeds.  Most of the time we do not know where they came from and assume they are fair game to share or save for future use. In this day and age anyone who share their photos or what ever online must realize that without the watermarks, anyone will use them.  Especially the nice ones.  Of course, there are naughty people who will crop out those watermarks or websites.  To me, that is being dishonest.

As far as asking people to “like” a photo or post.  I did that to find out if there really were any people that saw that post.  As you know, it did go viral, but I think that was a fluke.  This is not anything that I would do on a regular basis.  I really do not care to see all those people asking people to like or share their posts.  I do add a comment on the posts that I see are popular where I tell people how to share a post.  This way I can help educate them to the possibilities. There are many who do not know they can share our posts to their newsfeeds or in groups.

Congratulations on your numbers!  Those are great!   I agree, people seem to like the photos more.  I try to keep my posts balanced.  Half serious and half that are not.  It is the non serious ones that get shared the most.  Since they come from my business pages, they are marked with a clickable line where ever they are shared.  That way, I can get those pages out more on newsfeeds that I might now have access to otherwise.

    Randi

  • @andrea-vahl  I scheduled all of my posts this week. People are able to share my photos.  Maybe you have a Facebug?

    Randi

  • Is it time for updates  @andrea-vahl

This week, I cut back to 5 posts every 4 hours on HTMYHB.  It was too hard for me to do 6 (even with the scheduler)  along with the 4 a day on HARA.

    These are my numbers.

    Since June 12th

    HTMYHB has gained 312 fans.

    HARA 97 new fans.

The big surprise is HARA.  It has taken off and gone viral.  As I mentioned, I had pretty much let that page “die” and had considered letting it go as I thought that part of my career was over.  Now I realize it is not… but regardless,  I went from posting once a month there (if I was lucky) to 4 times a day.  I did not change anything except the posting as I wanted to see what could happen with a neglected page.

This week we have 4,463 people that are talking about it!   I think this is very amazing.  Now, I need to go back and redo that page with a real Timeline Cover and Apps.

    Randi

  • Update from my side – increased number of status updates per week:

Page 1: Despite the fact that I mainly posted text only (only 2x with images), I could increase the ‘people talking about this’ number by 47% during the course of last week. I have stable engagment through likes and comments. Yipeeh! I must admit that I also changed my content to something more generic and I also shared posts from related pages. This seems to work well.

Page 2 - The one I was struggling with since I started my experiment: I noticed an abrupt decrease of ‘people talking about this’ as of the day the school holidays started (-67%). Some posts did not get any reaction at all. The profile of the customers seem to relate very well to the profile of our fans, ie mothers of young children, who are now gone for holidays. Interaction increased a little during the last few days but we are still far off the initial level. Now, I’m wondering: the shop will be closed during August. Should I keep posting during that month or should I just save my energy and start in September again, when the shop’s open and school starts again…?

  • @claudiapoeckl ~ We have golf courses which are closed approximately 5 months each year.  This year, I began working on building our FB Page engagement about 2 months before our season officially opened.  We ended up opening 2 weeks early due to great weather and had lots of customers show up.  I have no concrete facts to support my theory, but I choose to believe that the discussions that I had going on FB put us high in people’s minds when we did open.

@andrea-vahl  I love this thread . . . and REALLY need to start using scheduler to do my posting.  Golf Season is so hectic that my pages are lacking now :(

    @annfurnivall ~ MISS you!

  • Thanks for your advise, @dedimason. You are right, I might not post through the whole month but I will start earlier to ‘warm our fans up’ again ;-)

  • @claudiapoeckl  I tend to ignore those reach numbers as they make me crazy.  Not sure what they are doing at times.  Instead, I try to focus more on interactions with my fans.  Sometimes, they make no sense at all.  I am getting more interaction on my HTMYHB page, yet the reach is now lower than my other page with less people and interaction.

    Since June 12th to today:

HTMYHB has added 320 new likes.

    HARA 134 new likes.

All I have done is added posts.  The big surprise was HARA as it has taken off in ways I did not expect. Not sure what happened but there is more interaction than ever.  Now, I need to work twice as much to keep both pages going.

    Randi

How are your numbers doing this week?

    Randi

  • @ndonelly i  want  to use those funny  things  that   float around   facebook….but   feel the  worry  too…that  baby  oil  joke  is  great…….

  • @annfurnivall – I think the trick is to find the right humor for your base. It seems to work because they have a look around while they are on your page – my page likes increased 500-600 from that one post which for some reason was just great – have to find another one like that to duplicate the success of the first one.

  • @ndonelly wow  on the increase!!!   i could  find alot  of  the right humor  if i  ignored  the  copyright   fears…lol

this week i have had  great  response  from  just   product  pictures….

  • @annfurnivall – copyright is always an issue and you do need to be careful.  And you do need to mix it up – relevant content like product pictures and only an occasional smattering of humor.  I do think off topic posts are good from time to time to give your viewers an idea about your personality.

  • @ndonelly thats how i look at it.

..but on your facebook  page  i see  things  maybe  you  didnt  create…….the  batman joke and a sign   i have seen lots of places etc……..and  more…so  how  do you   decide its  safe to use those…?   i love the   baby  one….

i hear  this  copyright  talk  then see the  jokes on   lots of  business pages   being  used   ….can  we  just not worry about  the  funny  stuff  floating around facebook?  i see  you  use  ecards  too   , is  that a good option for a business?   also   you have sesame  street w ith  their  .com….does  that  alleviate   copyright   worry?

p.s.  back to the  thread….my  numbers  were huge this week,  but im posting lots of pictures about our  big  sale  coming up…and  getting   so much  response  so its not  typical… yesterdays post got  2100  reach  out of  3100  fans….

    • @annfurnivall – wow 66% reach…impressive….you don’t need my advice. LOL.
    • I think ecard is a safe way to go.  Or attributing the author or source.  For some facebook “jokes”, I think the copyright issue isn’t such a big deal.
    • and lots of times I use the site’s own facebook share button (I think that’s where the sesame st came from) so I feel that if they put that out there then they’re good with it.
    • I would be very careful with using an artist’s work directly (whether photography, painter, writer or whatever) unless they have a share button
    • must have hit bullets by mistake and it won’t delete…….argh….

  • @ndonelly thanks naureen  i really  appreciate  your  details………im  seeing  enough   of  you  all in the   media industry  doing it  that i  think i will loosen up a bit  too…..i need  some fun stuff too….. i hear  you on the artist  warning…. i wouldnt   go   for the artists  or  photographers   at all….when i do  put a funny one on   its  great….

when i  hit  share  it  just  goes to my   personal page  so i need to work on that….

our reach  has been   really  good  for the last  couple of weeks, but we  almost always hit  30%…im   ready  for  a better  camera…..we are so different  being local /regional  and  actually  knowing  most of our  fans in a face to face way….  or   a  cyber  buddy way….im on   a couple of   industry  boards too…..

  • this has probbably  been  my best week ever….. the insight chart  says   our  reach went  144%….to  over  17,000 out of   3000 fans……   the other numbers  were up too and the  chart looks  nice….  we are  aiming at our  biggest weekend  and have  been posting   2 times a day…. the  biggest  posts have  been   albums  full of   the inventory   pictures…..i didnt   do any ads….and one promoted  post, a purely  promotional one started  yesterday…….  the album  posts reached more  faster  than  the promoted post….

i dont  really  get exactly   what  reach means,  but i have to assume   my numbers  mean  that  about  2500 people  saw  our  posts  every day   of the week  on average…. the  posts  are all about the  stuff  and  the pictures…

  • Hi, everyone.  I have been so busy since adding posts.  (and this past weekend lost all my power with the storms…)

Anyway, I should start sharing the weekly numbers instead of from the beginning of this “Great Experiment”

    Today is Aug 7, 2012

Since June 12 I have been recording both of my business pages.

    HTMYHB  5 posts a day.
    Started with
    5979 fans
    953 reach

    Aug 7
    6393 fans
    1266 reach

    414 New fans!

    HARA 4 posts a day

    June 12
    1552 Fans

Reach  This page was almost dead.  The reach when I started was about 30.  I was posting there about once a month. Maybe…  as I focused more on HTMYHB.  I started adding posts and am now up to 4 a day.

    Aug 7
    1748 fans

    1514 reach

    196 New fans

The big surprise is HARA.  I have had weeks where posts have gone viral.  Even now I have several that have been shared 300 times!  The highest Reach was 4,364.  (WOW)  Now I have to keep up with both pages.  I have not made any changes yet to this page, it is exactly how it looked before I started adding posts.  Waiting for my designer to re do everything at the scale that HTMYHB is.  Interesting that the design does not seem to matter!

I have used FB ads and promoted posts and never had the results that I have been getting with more posts.

Most of my posts are now photos with quotes and a message that I add that relates to the page.  I add at least one serious post a day.

    How is everyone else doing?

  • OK how did I miss this post?  I would like to participate in the next group!!
