Exchanging likes- useful? (7 posts)

  • Hey everybody :)

Hope I’m not re-posting something that’s already been discussed. Tried searching for a similar topic, didn’t find it.
I’ve been wondering if us exchanging likes just because we want our pages to have more numbers makes sense at all! Yes, it boosts numbers but essentially we are having ‘fans’ who will never actually really get involved in the community and who will never become customers.
Then again it makes sense to like if you are into similar fields and do actually find each other interesting. Or maybe from the same area (geographically).
    Thoughts? :)

  • Hi- I agree that I’m not sure how beneficial all the false ‘likes’ are to promoting our respective books. But I am new to the social media game so perhaps someone can enlighten us?

  • Generally I do not participate in “Like Ladders” and similar tactics. However every now and again I will join one. The last time that I did, I made a connection with another business owner who has a blog talk radio show. That led me to a “spot” on on her show within a couple of days. Will I gain business from it? I don’t know but but I’m sure it can’t hurt. I still am leery of them but every now and then can’t hurt.

  • Like Lori, I have participated a couple times on a small scale.  It can get you a few “likes” that are actually worthwhile (someone you care to engage with and they also engage back), but most often that is not the case.

I think it is better to reach out in groups (on this Social Media site and others) and find people that you would be interested in interacting with.  Ask them to visit your page and “like” it.  This should be much more beneficial.

  • @janani-eswar @coveredlady @lorithueme @kimkline  We had one here in the Clubs for awhile but it became very aggressive where people were posting repeatedly on Pages saying the person hadn’t liked them yet as their profile or just posting on their page to like them multiple times.  I think in a targeted forum it can sometimes make sense but I think it should be an “if it makes sense” option rather than a must.  You don’t want people who will never interact with you and never refer you and never buy from you to like your page anyway.

  • @andrea-vahl @kimkline @coveredlady @lorithueme hmm.. I like the ‘if it makes sense’ option which in essence is what everybody’s been saying :) Thanks a lot!

  • @andrea-vahl, yes I remember that in the Clubs ;) . I do follow the “if it makes sense” when liking other pages. It’s always a gamble when participating in them, sometimes it works.
