Engaging local community for non-profit (7 posts)

  • I handle the Social presence for a local community theatre and am trying to find better ways to engage the local community both online and off. I’ve managed to increase our likes by almost 50% but I feel engagement is still very low. Any good suggestions?

  • @robzi81As for online engagement, I would look at your posting strategy. Ask questions that are easy to answer, post at consistent times, post links to articles your fans might like, write blog posts about things happening in your theater that would interest your target audience and post links on FB, make some cool videos of rehearsals or comments from the director

The possibilities are endless, but it requires a disciplined commitment to regular posting.

  • Hi Rob,

try doing a good segmentation of your audience, on and off line, get some insights, and attend their needs and tastes. Use each social tool according to the segmentation and audiences. It takes you some time to identify and build your content marketing calendar but then it goes very well! Cheers!Caro

  • @Phil Thanks for the good ideas. It’s just tough to be able to be disciplined and committed to specific timing because I do this in my spare time as volunteer work for the theatre. Makes scheduling awfully hectic, but I’m trying to use tools like Roost and Hootsuite to automate what I can.

@Carolina Yeah, content marketing calendar is something that I REALLY need to do. Any suggestions on how to best segment your audience? Question/comment cards? Facebook questions? Things like that?

  • @robzie81 @carolinaagrest @phil-mershon These are great suggestions.  I am involved with 3 nonprofits having set up their facebook pages and do some monitoring on each but encourage one or two others who are directly involved in the non-profits to post. I coach them on content.  So far working well and getting ready to establish a FB page for a 27 yr old non-profit, Function at Tuxedo Junction in honor of Erkine Hawkins the great jazz musician. Going to re-read your suggestions again.

  • @robzie81 @trudy @phil-mershon thanks to all! Me too manage an FB page for our local Charity Hospital for Poor and i have been now starting applying the tips mentioned by phil and trudy here. It’s really time consuming, but if you follow rules regularly, they will definitely produce good result. Remember main three rules of Social Media: Follow three Rs : Be Regular(as phil said, post regular content), Be Relative(again as phil said, be disciplined and be relative-post content related to your theme i.e. theater related) and Be Responsive (always respond to comments and questions of your fans!)

  • You have a great topic for video. Post videos! You will get more reach and longevity and probably boost fans and likes. Segments of plays. Interviews with local actors. Building a set. All kinds of potential topics. When a play is running with a theme — have people comment on how the theme relates to community.
