Eliminating or Merging Pages (5 posts)

Topic tags: issue, page merge, safari
  • I have one site I don’t want any more – which comes up every time I open Facebook on Safari.  But when I open up Facebook on Firefox I get the site I want! And I can’t access any admin page on what I’ll call the Safari site.  What’s going on?

  • I would clear my Safari cache.

  • But that doesn’t really solve my problem, Bob.  Allow me to go on at length to explain my situation.

I’m new here, and am anxious (but careful not to be too anxious) to get in the mix in social media; I feel woefully behind. My Facebook business page is: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Street-Teacher/152691011446113
I attended a seminar by Constant Contact last week, and tried to listen to a Webinar by the Social Media Explorer too before that (the connection was poor, and he talked so fast – as if he was rushing a deadline). I have some clues on what to do – but it doesn’t help. I would appreciate any help!

I am in a quandary. Somehow, I had set up one Facebook page for ”Bill Goodhart,” but later another for William Goodhart – and still later, as you may have seen now, for The Street Teacher, my would-be income producing site. But, I can’t get into my “William” account on Safari (although I can on Firefox), for somehow FB (and Safari) figures my ”real” home is Bill Goodhart. SO! The question is: how can I eliminate the Bill Goodhart page, and how can I ”own” my William Goodhart page again? (I don’t know how to manage my business page either!)  Cleaning the cache doesn’t solve the problem, or answer my question, unfortunately.

Merge pages?  How do you do that?

  • @williamgoodhart  As far as I know you can’t merge pages on Facebook, you can only delete 1 on them. Do you have 2 separate profiles on Facebook? Every page is linked to a profile. If you can get into the profile that made the business page you don’t want you should be able to delete it.

  • @williamgoodhart ~ if I understand correctly, you created a personal profile under the name Bill Goodheart that you want to get rid of but when you open Safari, it automatically connects to that page.

Then, later you created a personal profile under William Goodheart.  This one you cannot access in Safari (presumably because Safari is automatically signing you in).

If the above info is correct, you can go to your settings on the profile you want to get rid of (make sure that you’re not getting rid of the profile that you created your page, “The Street Teacher” under or you will lose your page).

So, you’re logged into the personal profile that you DO NOT WANT:

    • Click the little dropdown arrow in the upper right corner.
    • choose ACCOUNT SETTINGS.
    • Choose SECURITY in the links on the right.
    • At the bottom, you’ll see a link to DEACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT.
    • Follow any instructions that come up because I’ve never deactivated so I do not know what it does from there.

OK, so now you’ve deactivated that account.

LOG OUT OF FACEBOOK while you’re in Safari.  The screen should change to a normal Facebook screen that allows you to log in.  Log in under the account that you kept.  Safari should ask you if you want to save the user name and password . . .

So, if I understood your dilemma correctly, you should now be in business with the correct personal profile.  As for managing your page, give me things you’re wanting to do and I’ll try to guide you through them.
