Effective Social Media Marketing (7 posts)

  • Hey Guys,

I’m not a huge fan of social media, as I do not use it personally. What I understand is that this can be an effective marketing strategy, so I’ve gone ahead an created some profiles on Facebook and Twitter.

Would any of you happen to have any tip for utilizing such profiles to maximize profitability. I’ve already created a quote form and a social media “like” discount.

I greatly appreciate all of your help,

    Rob Raine

  • @effexo Hi Rob

The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to plan. Start with a strategy and some goals of what you want to achieve. I have written a blog post about it which I recommend to you as a starting point.
Once you have this strategy, then create a content calendar and plan out for the next 6-12 months what you want to talk about. I try and create something big each month. The key is quality, helpful content.
Work out a posting schedule and stick to it. I would recommend at least once a day, and no more than 3 times in 24 hours, but this will depend on your business.
Start networking on- and offline. Partner with similar businesses within (and out of) your industry.
You want to create a community, but one that is built around you and not Facebook. Drive people to your own website and let them get to know the real you – not just the business.
That’s a good start, anyway. Hope it helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Sound advice, indeed! I greatly appreciate your feedback. I was a bit skeptical about social media, because I tend to think it’s overrated for my own personal use. I’ve initiated some social network only promotions that give fans the opportunity to save if they like us or follow us.

I think you bring up a very solid point about creating a plan. My plan is simple; for customers to see updates and news about my company through social media channels. I believe this will prevent the website from becoming overloaded with information that will detract from the main purpose, which is to provide a service. Customers that want to follow plans and updates can simply subscribe through these channels.

I greatly appreciate your input and look forward to utilizing this forum to learn and eventually become a sound contributor.

  • Hi Rob,

As Russell said it’s important to have a plan, stating your goals before you do anything.

  • @effexo  Rob, I have reviewed your new page!  I love the logo design, very dynamic.  In my opinion, social media, expecially Facebook is an absolute platform for promoting a graphic arts business.  Your business is largely visual and FB offers the chance to show off your work easily!  The contact form looks very nice and I know you know the coupon text still needs edits.  All-in-all, a great first start, now the strategy is to get people to see it and follow you!  Develop your plan to do this and you should have a hit on your hands!  Good luck!  Dave

  • @davejackson6 Dave, I greatly appreciate your nice words. I have learned more about social network marketing in the last 48 hours, than I have altogether. I look forward to reading your future posts.

  • @effexo  Rob, I also wanted to mention that the fact that you have an open mind about a website that has nearly one billion global users like Facebook, shows you have the means to build your business in multiple ways.  Social media’s largest output for you will be time, not money, so if you value your business as much as most small business enterpreneurs, you will find some time to test the waters.  Also, given that your business is potentially global and not micro-local like mine, give it your full attention and search on Facebook for some of your most admired competitors and see what they are doing.  Again, best wishes!  Dave
