Do Page Likes Now Count? (9 posts)

  • Hi everyone

I understood that if a Page liked another Page it would not count toward the Likes counter for that Page.

But I just noticed a client of mine Liked my Page as their Page (not as themselves) and my count went up one (yipeee!)

Is this a new feature of the new Page format perhaps that all likes count (which would be good news for B2B like myself!)?

    Cheers Simon

  • oh I didnt know that.  Isnt that interesting.

  • @simonjohn @vincentedwards i am happy to hear this, but sad to tell you guys that this hasn’t changed (at least not for me) because i have few likes by other pages on my page which aren’t counted in total likes. But after reading above thread, i managed to receive a like to my page from one of my friend’s page and then re-checked total likes but nothing changed. As you said that now page likes are counted, it should add 1 to my total likes but this didn’t happen.

I don’t know if thing has really changed with design change or if this is a temp bug. Thanks!

  • @moinshaikh interesting….I wonder why my Like’s went up by one….I know the only change was a Like from a Page.

@andrea-vahl might know the answer….she might pop in at some point and have a wise word or too as always!

The pages “likes” do not count and i don’t think the will. Imagine if this will be possible the amount of people making thousands of fake pages to increase their “likes”. Its good but weird it worked for you @simonjohn

  • @simonjohn really interesting, i have done same with my another page, gave like by my another page to another page but even though it doesn’t work. Anyway, let @andrea-vahl look into it and have her wise words!

  • @moinshaikh @simonjohn I’m fairly certain they do not count towards the overall likes.  There could have been another delayed Like count or just the usual Faceboook glitch.  (and thanks for your compliments :)

Just as @fernandocortes mentioned, it would be too easy to manipulate with fake pages.

  • @andrea-vahl Thanks for the suggestion explanation……quite possible too.

Re fake pages, surely one could create fake FB profiles as well?

Most businesses would not be interested in spending time creating fake pages to like their actual page (apart from the ‘make money online’ crowd, of course!). We all appreciate the boost of Like exchanges like we have had on SME – often this is as much a learning process where we learn from the pages we like) but to create bulk fake pages….most of us are too busy running the business to bother.

Against this, there is the reality that for B2B most of our Likes are going to be from other Pages, not profiles.

Clearly Facebook sees itself as profile-focussed – fair enough too.

But it is fascinating to see the tension created by Facebook wanting, on the one hand, the interest and attraction that Pages bring to their social world and on the other not really embracing the businesses behind those Pages in that they treat Pages differently. All because they are worried about a few that might abuse Page to Page likes.

That concern could be simply addressed by a rule that said something like a Page’s Like of another Page will only count on the Like count if the Page liking has X number of Likes from profiles (ie: real people) so as to suggest the liking Page is legitimate.

    Ah…sorry…I have been rambling again!
