Re fake pages, surely one could create fake FB profiles as well?
Most businesses would not be interested in spending time creating fake pages to like their actual page (apart from the ‘make money online’ crowd, of course!). We all appreciate the boost of Like exchanges like we have had on SME – often this is as much a learning process where we learn from the pages we like) but to create bulk fake pages….most of us are too busy running the business to bother.
Against this, there is the reality that for B2B most of our Likes are going to be from other Pages, not profiles.
Clearly Facebook sees itself as profile-focussed – fair enough too.
But it is fascinating to see the tension created by Facebook wanting, on the one hand, the interest and attraction that Pages bring to their social world and on the other not really embracing the businesses behind those Pages in that they treat Pages differently. All because they are worried about a few that might abuse Page to Page likes.
That concern could be simply addressed by a rule that said something like a Page’s Like of another Page will only count on the Like count if the Page liking has X number of Likes from profiles (ie: real people) so as to suggest the liking Page is legitimate.
Ah…sorry…I have been rambling again!
