Disconnecting your personal Facebook Profile from your company page- HELP (10 posts)

  • Hi All, just new to the group and wondered if any Facebook experts could assist me in helping a client. My client set up a business page from her personal profile but the company wants her to remove it from her personal profile and have a company log in only.
Can this be done without changing the business page?
Hope someone can assist Thanks in advanceSharon

I believe it’s just a matter of adding another admin and then removing yourself, but i’m going to move this thread over to the Facebook club as they’ll know best.

  • Sharon, a Facebook page is always linked to a personal profile. If the company doesn’t want your client to stay the administrator of the page, they have to choose another person with a personal Facebook profile to take over. As soon as they decided who should take care of the page in future, the current admin (your client) needs to change the admin rights on the page via ‘Edit Page’ – ‘Admin Roles’. Only when a new admin has been defined, she needs to remove herself as manager of the page.

If the company is happy with your client to stay admin, but they don’t want to rely on her alone, your client could add other admins via the ‘Admin Roles’ as well.

  • Claudia and Rich many thanks that’s what I advised but if you set up a company page and select I do not have a Facebook account it allows you to have a generic sign in….  am I right in saying this? :)

  • How would you set up a company page without signing up first? Signing up is only possible with personal details. I have never seen the option you describe above. Where can I find it? Would be totally interested in seeing it, because if this works, it could be really nice for some companies.

If you sign out of Facebook then on the home screen choose create a page, it then asks you if you have a personal account – if you choose NO it then asks you for all the company details and company proof without (as far as I am aware) being connected to a personal account -Yes admin users will be through their personal account but the company page is on its own….Facebook change things so much but dont update the help guides to be able to find the details on it…..If you or anyone works it out I would be so grateful to hear the solution lol x

  • I did already sign out earlier but didn’t see the link. But now, when I checked again, I found it. So now I’m wondering too

    a) if it’s recommended to create pages like this (what could be the impact, what the (dis)advantage, besides that you can give away the access)

    b) how (if at all) you can ‘neutralize’ existing pages to not being linked to a personal account anymore and to still be able to access it.

@andreavahl Andrea, would you know more about this? If I create pages for my customers in future, would it be better to set it up without my profile?

  • @andrea-vahl do you have any knowledge on this and the questions  @claudiapoeckl asked? I wonder the impact it could have and if Facebook is moving over to this?

  • @claudiapoeckl @alexandrabriggs @sharoncomrie  Thanks for the bumps on this thread.
I do not think it is possible to dis-engage your profile from a Page without leaving it hanging out in the breeze with no admin and no way to get it back.  I have not found any way to do that.
AND I highly discourage that.  The biggest reason is because if you have a business-only page, you can’t use the Facebook Search bar, you can’t Like other Pages as your Page and you can’t comment on other Pages as your Page.  I love that feature as a tool for getting extra visibility as your Page.

If you have your profile linked to your Page, you don’t have to worry about any information crossing over.  No one can see who the admin is, no personal information about the admin is shown on the page or is even visible.  Sometimes it’s a matter of really getting down to the reason why someone wants to unlink them.  If they are concerned about the privacy, just tell them that no one can see who manages the Starbucks Page.  They probably have several of their Marketing people who are tied to that Page and you can’t see any information about them.

The other solution has always been to create a “fake” personal account and link that to the page but I am discouraging that because Facebook has announced that they are going to be deleting fake accounts.
    Hope that helps!

  • Thank you ladies I appreciate your input … it has helped just re-confirm my thoughts.Nice to virtually meet you as well! x
