Creating Images for Shortstack on Facebook (6 posts)

  • Hello Everyone!

I am new to Shortstack but am using it to create a contest, as well as some product pages. I want to make sure it is as awesome as possible before I get going, and to do that I want to include some custom images.

However, when I created a few simple shapes in Publisher, and went to import them, Shortstack butchered them completely. I’ve been looking for an image guide to try to get the right size/dpi rules in place, but haven’t found anything.

Has anyone had experience with this, is there any resource you could point me too? Thank you all for your help!

  • @jasonreilly Hi Jason – what do you mean by “butchered?” The tab width is 810p so your image should be that size. The exception is if you are using any of their themes on your contest tab, then that size might not work. I usually create my image as a jpeg and then find a theme that will work with it. I do sometimes have to adjust my image width down to make sure it doesn’t get cut off.

Not sure this answered your question.

  • @marylarson Thank you for replying! Well, what happened was, using Photoshop, I created a 810×150 banner for a tab. I was using the image widget, but not a template. I was sorting of building on the fly.

Anyway, so I had a 810x150px banner with 300dpi.. which is where I think I screwed up, because I used .PNG instead of .JPG. When I loaded the image up to Shortstack, it was much larger then it should have been, and the image was streched and most ugly.

Now, I went back in, made a 810x150px banner with 76dpi and medium quality .jpg. This seems to be working a lot better, but I have to sharpen up the image a bit I think!

I should note that I’m new to making graphics as WELL as new to social media marketing. Oh how I miss my databases :D

it shouldn’t matter whether it is png or jpg. I believe shortstack supports both – except I don’t thing it supports transparent backgrounds – someone may have more info on that.
it also should not matter what dpi you use.

what is important is the actual pixel size (width)
when adding the graphic into the program there is usually some areas that have details or hovers where you can find some answers to your questions. there should be info about what pixel width to use. it is better to make it smaller than too big b/c their photo software will distort just as fb does.
one more thing is that shortstack seems to have pretty good customer care so you can always shoot them a message asking.

  • @melissaholmes Thank you Melissa! I really appreciate the feedback. I will have to try again then (I do know I can’t hit 5mb, but so far I am far away from that). Once I get permission to load the tabs, I will link here so you guys can go see them and let me know what you think.

One major important detail. Shortstack did not change the size of the page.
I believe it is still formatted to the 510px or whatever the dimension was but the image inside of themes are supposed to be 420 (not exact on size, if you need help finding it let me know)
What shortstack did to update to time line is expand the background of the app so that it fits into timeline – that is probably why your image is getting distorted!
Pagemodo has fully adjusted pages (I can help you with that if you are interested email me service@accesscreations.com)

example of free shortstack app I did for our church page…
