Copy Right Issues when using images on facebook…. (9 posts)

  • Just wondering what are the copy right issues you can face if you are using google or flicker images on your facebook business page?

  • In my experience the same issues as any other site…if you don’t pay for the image, you don’t own it (unless it is Royalty free).  It is always better to either ask permission, or just spend the 3-4 dollars from sites like Photoshare to just purchase the rights.

  • Hmmm… as long as you make sure that the images are either paid for or free to use, there shouldn’t be an issue. Just double check the licensing agreement before use if you’re unsure or have any doubts.

  • If you’re looking for a great place to find stock photos try photopin.com. I haven’t had much time to explore it but from what I understand it’s a resource of CC licensed photos that you can use on your blog as long as you link back to the site. I’m thinking it might also work for your Facebook Business Page?

  • Thank you all, @ashleywilliams @melissaagnes @matthewoneill @matthewoneill

    Actually i don’t want to use the images for my self, just want to know if i am sharing the images to spread info, like if i am uploading wedding photography images from google then i am just telling others that how to do Wedding Photography! that’s it…. and i can also share the name of the photographer on the image when using it on facebook……Is it still a matter of copy rights???

    your feedback would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    @ijazrafi

  • @ijazrafi i think if you use owner’s name with image, it will lessen the threat. I mean everyone would love to spread his/her name and fame. As far as you mention photo credit :XYZ NAME(link to his/her profile) it will be matter of no objection

  • Thanks  @moinshaikh

  • If you ever use any of your own photos be wary. I think fb still gives themselves a liberal license with your photos.

  • Although it is polite to credit the photographer, i do not believe that gives you the right to use the photo. I realize they are unlikely to hunt you down, but…There are 2 people who have rights to the image – the person in the image and the photographer. Photographers retain sole rights when they asked for them in their contract with the subject. There are a lot of photos in the $1 to $3 range from stock sites, and many more on free image sites. Best to use these rather than anything you can just find on Google. I am a web developer and FWIW I have in my contract that the client guarantees (or takes responsibility!) for any photos they ask me to upload being ones they have the right to. Yes, I have occasionally seen the original owner show up full of indignation wanting photos taken down.
