Converting Facebook Personal Account to Existing Fan Page (7 posts)

  • I would like to merge a Facebook personal account with an already existing fan page – is it possible to do that without: a.) Starting a 2nd fan page or b.) Erasing the existing fan page?  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Hi Shelby, I have been wondering about that myself and found this article:http://just-ask-kim.com/merge-facebook-profile-page/#.UQh_wb-YsrUI kind of knew what was involved for a while, just did not have to do it for a business I represent or a friend. It is a tedious process but the biggest thing is the profile of the account that wants to convert to a Page goes away…that means you will either need to work with a friend and transfer ownership to them when the Page is created, or you’re going to have to setup another FB profile acct to become the admin. Hope that makes sense; but this is a very good article, you should be good if you follow Kim’s advice. Good luck!

  • @shelbybbest, thanks for asking this question, and @marketennant thanks for answering!  This is useful information for me to help my clients.

  • @marketennant Thanks for your response! I actually have read that article as well, it just didn’t go into much detail about how to link it to an existing fan page.

  • I just had the exact problem last week as well and it seems, you can’t avoid transferring your profile into a page first and only then merge with another page.

I did that now and in fact, I tried to merge the three pages (one original page, one converted profile and one page that was marked as community page by FB) now three times but nothing happens. First I waited for 3 days – since I read on the net that a merge can take up to 48 hours. Then I tried again – waited another 2 days. Now, today, I gave it another try.

Does anyone of you know of another example, where the merge of the pages simply didn’t happen? Am I allowed to still post on one of the pages or should I not work on the pages at all? I would love to hear about your experiences.

  • for what I know, because I have been thinking about it but I still don’t give it a try.the page and profile has to have the same exact name before the merge. If one have just 1 letter of difference, it won’t work.

Also, what you have to be careful about is this:

Merging Pages combines all your likes and check-ins, but all other content from the Page with fewer likes, such as wall posts and photos, will be permanently deleted. The Page with fewer likes will be removed from Facebook and you will not be able to unmerge it.http://www.jonloomer.com/2012/08/24/convert-facebook-profile-to-business-page/
I don’t like that, because I have more friends than likes in my page, so you will loose everything in your original page…
