Connecting Facebook to Twitter (11 posts)

  • Is it still possible to have your Facebook updates appear on your Twitter feed? At one time you could do this. It appears you can only have Twitter appear on Facebook.

  • Yes, it is possible. But I do not recomand it. Nothing says you gave up on Twitter and that you don’t care about your fans following you there like auto-feeding half-cut posts from Facebook. Here is a post about this and you will find more on the subject :)

  • I don’t recommend this @kathyweir, either, simply because you may want to post something to your Facebook page that is more than the limited character count for a tweet, and then, yes, as @gabriel has said, it will seem un-authentic to your Twitter followers, and odds are, you won’t get clicks or retweets…

As well as you may not want something to appear on your Twitter that you’ve posted to Facebook. Both platforms cater to different customers/followers/fans, so you may want to alter your strategy (and goals) for each one.

    Hope this helped :) Melissa

  • Thanks @gabriel and @melissaagnes. I was curious about it. You’re both correct they are two different types of updates. Appreciate the input.

  • @kathyweir you are welcome.
As @melissaagnes said, the message has to be adapted for the medium. In my experience the best copy for Facebook is not the same for Twitter. There are small differences. One thing I’d like to add to what @melissaagnes said is that chance are some fans both like you on Facebook and follow you on Twitter. In this case they would see the same message twice. So it’s better to change it.

  • Great point @gabriel !

  • Definitely agree with the above… when in doubt, don’t crosspost.

  • That option is under resources..to connect Facebook to Twitter. I always alert my students to it because it is a convenience. I stress that keywords should be first in the post and to recognize it gets cut off.Personally I prefer hoot suite to auto post to both Facebook and twitter. I know there is discussion about the value of auto posts versus manual posts but I make sure there are several posts a day to both platforms. And In hoot suite I can tweak the posts themselves so they appear different after they are in the queue.Another thing i do is write a blog post that is published every Monday through networked blogs. When I do that I write 5 different tweaks about that post and add them to the hoot suite queue to come out at varying times so the day.mi know, got off on a different topic..opps..

  • Thanks again for the info everyone.

  • @kathyweir I agree with the majority of the other posts on here. While it is still possible I would not recommend it. You can lose parts of messaging or your post may only be a link when it forwards over to Twitter. I use HootSuite and post to both where I can verify the post stays the same or I will post by logging into accounts separately. Overall I typically use HootSuite for regular postings but login to the individual accounts if I want to reshare or retweet something

  • Thanks again everyone for the input. I was curious if you could still do it.
