Confused about others’ shares and posts on my Page Timeline (5 posts)

  • Despite doing research, I am confused about when other people’s posts and shares do and do not show on my Page’s Timeline. I don’t mean comments to posts I have made, but new posts by other people.

I receive two types of email notifications about these posts:

Subject line: X shared a link on (Page Name’s) timeline

Subject line: X posted on (Page’s)) Wall

Just this morning I received two emails, one of each kind. The post showed up on my Page’s Timeline in the “recent posts by other on (Page)” box, in the notifications panel in the upper left corner, and in the Activity Log. The share did not show up anywhere. Both the post and the share were put up by people who Like the Page. I have my permissions set to “everyone can post.”

  • I have been completely stumped by this too @bamacrobie!  Some posts show up and some don’t.  I have not been able to see a pattern or see how anyone could “force” a post to appear on the TImeline.  I have no idea how that is working and the only thing I can see is that it may be random from Facebook?  Does anyone else have any insight into this?

  • @bamacrobie @andrea-vahl Have either of you noticed if it says “sponsored” underneath the pictures? Perhaps this is a feature of the Sponsored Post option. I do believe there is a way to turn this off under your Account settings.

  • No it doesn’t say Sponsored  @jennifer-sharp – I don’t think there is any way you can push a sponsored post onto someone else’s Facebook Timeline.  I’ve seen the Sponsored posts coming through in the News Feed but you can’t advertise on someone else’s Timeline.  It’s just odd!!

  • FB programmers are just convinced that everything they do is right. so the gal who had the first idea probably had a good idea. then that good idea was twisted and deformed until something was spat out and we have to live with it.
