Claim kinda taken facebook URL? (11 posts)

  • Does anyone know how can I claim a taken vanity url for my page? I work for FreeOnlineGames.com, we have a page that is facebook.com/fogfreeonlinegames. I have tried to claim facebook.com/freeonlinegames which is a dead link, nothing on it. But when I try and make the claim I’m told “FreeOnlineGames is not available” any ideas?
    Thanks.

  • I have the same issue. My company name is Just Social, but it isn’t available and I asked a FB rep about it who just said the same thing…..yet the page doesn’t exist…..I have justsocialmedia but i did find it strange that they wouldn’t cough up the justsocial version.

I think your best bet (but this is a bit of a guess) would be to take the same approach as if someone was breaching your trademark with a vanity URL but simply say that there is no page with that name and we have a legal entity that has the right to use the name and we want facebook to release it to us???

Let me know how you go if you pursue it mate!

  • Ahh thanks Scott, I just submitted it. The Trademark breach reporting page actually lead me to a page for this exact problem.

  • I got denied “Multiple party interest” I explained we are FreeOnlineGames.com but still a no. If not us then who should get that url? Sigh.

  • Very interesting, @pacey – i wonder if they have held certain urls for certain people???  But if you have the URL, who would get it?  Odd!

  • How do I claim a Page that already exists for my business? Can I merge it with my business’s official Page?A Facebook Page may exist for your business even if you or someone else from your business didn’t create it. This happens for a variety of reasons. For example, when someone checks into a place that doesn’t already have a Page, a new Page gets created to represent the location.

If you’re an official representative of an existing Page, you can request to claim it:

    1. From the Page, click the  menu.
    2. Select Is this your business?.
    3. Follow the steps that appear on your screen. Add and verify information about your business, like its address and website, and click Continue.
    4. Next, Facebook will ask you to claim your Page to prevent other people from becoming an admin without your permission. Choose to verify your connection to the business by Email or by uploading Documentation:
      • Email: Choose this option if you have an email address associated with your Facebook account that was officially issued to you by your business. Email addresses from generic providers like Yahoo! or Gmail will not be accepted. The email address should correspond to your business’s name, ex: jane.doe@acmeproducts.com.
      • Documentation: Upload a scan or photo of an official document that shows your business’s name and address. Ex: phone bill, business license, business tax file, articles of incorporation, etc.
    5. Click Submit.

  • Hey @pacey Could you please give me that link to that page?

    Thanks mate.

Sounds like a mission impossible though!

    Here you go https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/360358877344441
If you then tick “I have an inquiry related to usernames (ex: “acmeproducts” as used by the Page address “http://www.facebook.com/acmeproducts”)”
Another two options will appear. One of which is “This username doesn’t seem to be in use, but when I try to add it to my account, I’m told it isn’t available”
    Good luck :)

  • thank you very much
    @pacey

Nice work and very much appreciated!

  • @pacey Mate thanks for the information you provided! I followed it up and I got the URL!!! Heard back from facebook within 3 days and whilst they didn’t promise me the URL, what they basically did was release it and then email me and tell me, it’s now free and if no one grabs it between them releasing it and me seeing their email, well i would be able to get it…luckily, i got it!

So thanks again for helping me out on that, very much appreciated!

After getting the URL, I tired to call the page the same name as the URL and the facebook system rejected it LOL :)

Don’t suppose you have a contact for that do ya ;) hehehe

I’m going to have to contact them and see if i can get that sorted too but the hard part (URL) is out of the way thanks to you!

    Cheers

    Scott

  • @scottlinklater

Well done! But that is typical haha. I’m afraid I don’t have a contact page for that issue but I’m sure you will find one somewhere.

    Good luck again :)
