Cheap & Easy Engagement Tip (9 posts)

  • Have you tried a “write your own caption” post? We do this once maybe twice a month so it doesn’t burn out. Check out today’s it’s a hoot – 50 comments in 4 hours – (I know the link is wrong – “test before post grasshopper”): we’d love to hear your captions: http://goo.gl/TGVhK

  • Great idea – thanks for sharing, @mitch-rezman.  Where do you get your pictures?

  • I reverse engineer Pinterest

  • @mitch-rezman Great stuff, Mitch. Your page is awesome. :)

  • That’s a great idea for sure @mitch-rezman- I would be a little careful about downloading a picture and uploading it to Facebook.  But the caption post is a great way to get involvement – and that was a funny picture!

  • Well done @mitch-rezmanI like your page, but as @andrea-vahl said, you should look for a better way for managing photos. Maybe if you mention the original font you solve it.

  • Actually Pinterest has been a great way of managing images as I’m able to track them down quickly. I have 30 – 40,000 on my server and will occasionally bring them down to a couple of desktops so I can view them in Picassa. We’re also in the process of moving them all to the (google) cloud – tedious process
@andrea-vahl the internet is still the “Wild West” Facebook and Pinterest have changed all the rules regarding copyrights. If the image has a signature, we’ll display the signature. We won’t display images with water marks.
I’ve gotten bold because I run all the images we post through google image search to see if there’s some background we might want to attach. Lately whether we pull from Facebook or Pinterest the only history we see “Pins” with no origin.
It can get tough in your vertical. I recently started Falconry lessons under master falconer Craig Hendee. He runs a 503(C) and uses donations to fund the 18 raptors he’s rescued. It was too good of a match not to ask to take over their Fan page http://goo.gl/ofS5N which has been languishing.
I learned quickly that certain people in the Falconry community worldwide were not liked and I should not post pictures of these individuals as they could mar the reputation of the organization. Also birds with poorly maintained feathers can not be posted (unless in a rehab program) – who knew?
We’re waiting for Craig to get a PayPal issue worked out so we can install a donate tab  (503(C) rules) on the page. We’re then going to mount a campaign to be selling these http://goo.gl/1VPAk (that’s 10×25 feet) and start putting some marketing muscle behind the page
We’ll be reaching out to SME seeking ideas on how to raise money via product sales and other avenues. The Mongolian projects are great stories suited for telling on Facebook.

  • @mitch-rezman Interesting concept (your 2nd post).  I have seen a couple of pages that I follow ask for captions. I will have to try this route as my fill in the blanks are met with silence.

In regards to falconry, you might think about reaching out to the Renaissance Faire folk. The sport is often displayed at these events. I’d love to get on my soapbox about complainers but this isn’t the forum (needless to say there are a lot of non-thinking people in the world these days). Another group might be equestrians. Have you thought about connecting the Randi Thompson (How to market your horse business) on SME? She might have some ideas.

    Best wishes!

  • @kc-kreative – re ask for captions – it’s got to be the right image.
Thank you for the suggestions – I will reach out to Randi – you ARE spot on – we do our indoor training here: http://goo.gl/qUtP3 here’s some pics of birds working with horses http://goo.gl/ddy0x. We use horses to help socialize the birds. (you don’t want a young unhooded hawk on your glove when a stable cat walks behind you – the hawk’s scream is a lot more intense than in the movies:-)

If you wait for the banner rotation here: http://goo.gl/3Y3mm you’ll see Craig on the right in blue – he does a LOT of Renaissance faires – I suppose I’ll do some too now:-)
