Change a FB username, pagename was no problem? (3 posts)

Topic tags: pagename
  • Hi first off happy 2013,

I have to change a facebook page name and username as the company has changed his name. Now the facebook page name was no problem but the username is a problem. The FB pagename has more 200 likes (579 likes)

At the moment i see two options:

1/ Start a new fb page with the correct name. But as i already have the correct name as pagename i can’t register the name. With this option i should delete the FB page and start over with collecting likes and have 25 likes before i can register a nice url??

2/ Start a “Unlike Campaign”, i have 380 unlikes? So i have < 200 likes and then i can edit the page username, right?

Any other options? any ideas, tips?

  • I understand your dilemma. I work with an academic program that changed names and I had to go through creating a new page (as this was before a lot of the business page revamping Facebook did). I posted regularly on the “old” page enticing individuals to “like” the new page and pass along the information. It is a pain to start over, but it will ensure everything is set up as needed.
Additionally, I am not sure an “unliking” campaign dropping you below 200 likes would guarantee being able to edit the username. Then you also would lose 180 followers. I would think about your goal for your Facebook page and find what will work best to gain the reach and engagement you are looking for

  • If there has been a rebranding of the company, you should be able to change the Facebook Username.  Facebook allows for a one-time change @gotoandplaycom

If you don’t see a “Change Username” link next to your Username in the Update Info section, I would submit a bug report here:  http://www.facebook.com/help/contact/164405897002583  and explain that your company has gone through a rebranding and submit a copy of something official like a bill that shows the new name.

Like @alexandrabriggs said I don’t think you’d get the link back if you did an unlike campaign.  But the good news is that if you did have to start a new page, you don’t have too far to go to get to where you are now.  Hope that helps!
