Can’t ”like” a page… (17 posts)

  • My company page doesn’t allow me to “like” anyone else’s page…  does anyone have any insight into this.  Is there a technique to this that I’m unaware of…..

I have posted this inquiry on FB Help Forum with no solutions, and apparently it is more common than I would have suspected.

  • @hendione
Hi, I was told I have to “like” from my profile page on other companies or individual’s pages. If there is another avenue or technique I am open as well.
So far have to do it from profile as far as I know.

  • @hendione @rebeccacohen You’re correct.  While on your company Page, make sure you switch to using it as “yourself”.  Pages cannot “like” other pages, nor use the message button or make recommendations.  You may also notice that even when you know another business has “liked” your Page, your total number of Likes doesn’t change.  Only people can “like” Pages.  It’s one way FB is keeping the channel social. It makes sense if you think about marketing in terms of reaching and influencing people. Good luck!

  • Thanks Mark, so just to be clear,  I have to be in my PERSONAL account, which is NOT associated with the business account to “like” a page?  (different emails etc..)

How is that I have seen other companies then that have liked other companies? (They are shown on the page.)

  • From your business Page, you should have two options, to use the Page as “the Page name” or as “your name”.  Click on the down-arrow to the far right on the blue Facebook bar at the top of your Page to switch between the two.  As long as you are using the Page as “your name” you will be able to “like” other business Pages and those Likes will show up as coming from your Page. Hope this helps.

I invite anyone else to weigh in on this subject.  That’s a great advantage to participating in these forums!

  • @markThank you, Mark. You have given some very helpful info and confirmation as to what I thought is needed.
I like that we can help each other on these forums as well. It’s vauable!

  • @rebeccacohen Thank you, Rebecca. i hope Lisa lets us know if we helped her or not. I hope I didn’t misunderstand her question. By the way, I love your avatar!

  •  I was thinking that I was allowed to “like” just from FB account name (my personal name) and not from my FB page (that is my business page and is attached with my FB account name). But I saw that my FB page (business) is showing on timeline some “likes” as part of the business information.

So, when I switch to “use FB as a page” and I click “like” in other page, it goes to my FB page(businees), but I don’t get any authomatic information if they post on their walls.

But, I switch to “use FB as a FB account(my name)”, and I click “like” in other page, it goes to my FB account name(my name) and every time that they post something in their walls It shows on my “news feeds” and I can read about them what’s going on.

I’m not really sure about the pros and cons using one or the other to “like” other pages. As a business, I don’t want “likes” from other business, because they are not reading my posts if they don’t go to visit my page (unless if My business is complement to their business and it can be there as a reference for their clients). And also, I don’t want to “like” from my business, unless is a business that can be a complement to my business and can be helpfull for my clients.

So, we have to understand, why we want to use ”like” from the page or from the FB account name.

  • One other thing to note, @hendione is that if you have a pure Business Page (ie, it is not attached to any personal profile at all) then you will not be able to Like another Page as your Page – this is one of the big drawbacks of having just a pure Business profile.  But I don’t know if that is the case for you.

I really “like” liking other business pages as my page, @hildaalanisgonzalez and the reason is each page has it’s own home feed so I can really pay attention to just the business side of Facebook from there.  I can see all the Pages posts without my friend’s posts getting in the way.  I wrote a post about it on my blog here:   https://andreavahl.com/facebook/how-and-why-to-like-other-facebook-pages-as-your-page.php

  • @mark I talk to my client earlier via facebook chat and she isn’t quite understanding how to navigate and do likes from her personal profile or where to even look on her home page of her profile and on the business page for her likes.
I believe I will do some snippets of some type to demonstrate for her.
She stated when she logs in from another personal facebook account she has with a family member, she isn’t able to go to her page to like it. She sees no like button.
I am not sure why this would be happening since she has several likes already and obviously others are finding her page.
Any input on why this might be the case is appreciated.

  • @andrea-vahl thank you Andrea, I like your point #3, I learned something new today and undertand the benefit doing it as a business, I used to do it from my personal account and my news feed is all mix with business and friends news making me waste time or missing something important from friends. Now I will “like” all the long list of the “exchange like” from my business page.

Andrea,do you know if I change my picture profile on my FB, is also going to change in my profile here in the club? (Sometimes I use a joke pictures depends on what we were talking with my FB friends, but I need to know if it is going to be showed in my profile in here).

  • Yes Mark, I understand now…  someone also provided a link from Facebook Help that walks you through the process; here it is:

     https://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=168135343245607&

I agree this is a very valuable forum; most questions on Facebook Help go unanswered so is very little support  for those who are new to social media, (like me!)  Thanks again!

  • Glad you liked the post, @hildaalanisgonzalez – and yes it will change your profile picture here as well.  One thing you can do is go into your profile and switch the location of where you want the picture to pull from.  You could direct it to an exact picture on Facebook that you always want to reference.  Hope that helps!

  • @mark
Thanks Mark and just found out that my client has a “follow” button and not a like button. Something she didn’t tell me until I check email tonight.
Is there a way to change it to “like”button since she prefers it.
I am thinking of suggesting she join here and start asking questions.
She may get confirmation, I really am being upfront with her “like” button issues. lol

  • @rebeccacohen  here is a link to FB help regarding “following”: https://www.facebook.com/help/search/?q=follow
You can “follow” a question that has been asked and see the thread in your newsfeed.  It has nothing to do with “liking” a page.  I think you need to be sitting beside your client to figure out (and coach) how she is using FB.  She appears somewhat lost.  I’m not sure if joining this forum would be good for her or not at this point, as she seems to have difficulty communicating her issues.  I’m not being mean here.  I just think she needs some hands-on help.  Reach out to her if you can. My best to you.

  • @rebeccacohen Was your client talking about a Follow button on her website, rather than her Facebook Page???

  • @mark
Thank you, Mark for you input. I believe she did join but not sure she has spent any time reading or engaging here yet. I am hoping it might be beneficial and confirm what I have shared even if it doesn’t make sense right away to her.

After I talked to her again, I do think one issue is  the” follow button” in question and said it’s faded out on her blog and site so will go and check on it to see if something has changed. It’s always faded out on mine until I click it, but she told me she is getting an error message &  the link is invalid. I will go check with what is up with that and make corrections if necessary.

Yes, I now realize, the follow button is not going to be the same. But wouldn’t the “subscribe or like buttons” be very similiar on a page?

I agree with sitting down together and we have done this on many other things and worked together. I had hoped to meet with her tonight and resolve if possible but didn’t get a confirmation.
She claims she cannot go from another family facebook page and “like” her page. I spent a great deal of time explaining it has to be the fanpage, did a photoshop graphic explanation and we kind of went roundy, roundy.
All in all, it has to be frustrating for her and the best is going to be to keep doing the tutorials and sit down with her again on this issue(s).

I am grateful for the clubs and learning lots myself and adjusting to new changes so probalby magnified multiple times for someone whose never done this at all.
