Can you recommend action to get more fans to my public service page on Face (16 posts)

Topic tags: Facebook Fans, likes
  • I have a Facebook page called Dementia Support, to educate and communicate medical news and updated info on this dreadful disease. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get more ”likes” or fans to this page. My audience is worldwide.
Thank you for any advice you will share. I am not on Twitter with the Facebook postings.

  • Although “Likes” are important, the more important concept is to get true fans who will help you build support in the long run.  To do so, you need to give them what they want.  And for social media, that really boils down to pertinent information.

One idea is to offer an interview with a key opinion leader on the topic of “dementia”.  Or, you can simply follow Google Keywords for this topic and provide links to current articles that update your readers on a consistent basis.  We have used similiar efforts to build our sites with fairly solid success.

    I hope that helps!

  • Hi Joe.

I agree with Gregory. Content is key and it will drive the right people either to your facebook page or website (whichever’s your goal).

I find it important to activate fan-gating on the Facebook page as this will almost “make” people click on the Like button of your page to access the rest of the content (although in reality they can just jump to the page’s Wall). Sometimes people like the content displayed on your Wall but forget to click the Like button.

I use the free version of Woobox http://woobox.com/ for my customer’s pages and am really happy with it. It has fan-gating, form-gating and friend-gating features. There’s a few more tools that will allow you to do this as well.

If none of this sounds familiar let me know and I’ll try to explain it in a bit more detail.

    Hope this helps.

    Alex

  • Thank you. I do use Google now, and it works fine. It’s not a simple subject, and the fans are usually folks with some experience as carers. I’m going to look at Woobox. Thanks.

  • @joepascal Hi Joe

I look after a Facebook page for White Wreath Association, which is a small charity who helps and gives advice to those with depression and families of suicide victims.

It can be hard to to run a Facebook page like this, and while information is great, you might want to try making the site a friendly, light, fun place to visit.

These topics can be quite dry and I find making the page more community-orientated, with discussion around topics other than directly about the subject matter can really get people to keep reading and visiting (and learning).

You want to build a community around the page, so you will need to “entertain” not just inform.

    Hope that helps.

Email me if you want to chat about it further, Joe. :)

  • Russell, you are a wise man. I agree with you completely, re appealing to the readers’ needs. My subject is worldwide and the articles reflect the subject scope not a geographic community. You advice is valued, and I will be incorporating your recommendation in future postings. Appreciate your invitation to chat.Joe Pascal

  • @alexandrevicente How can I add a second FaceBook page to my profile? I have 5 Star Real Estate listed, and I’d like to add Dementia Support as a second FaceBook Page. Your assistance would be valued.Joe Pascal

  • @joepascal I have gotten new fans by sharing, conversing on other pages with related topics as my page. So post as your page with valuable information, questions, or answers and people will check your page out.

  • @kathypop   Do you mean I should post on my personal FB and refer to the FB Page as the source or shared page? I’m trying to understand your suggestion. Thanks for your assistance.

  • @joepascal Hiya Joe. I believe you’re limited to listing only one Facebook Business Page on your profile. I’d have a word with the Club leader Andrea Vahl (@andrea-vahl) about that. I think it could be useful to be able to add more Facebook Pages.

    Hope this helps.

    Alex

  • @joepascal You have the option as using FB as your personal profile or one of your pages by going to the upper right top corner, click the downward arrow next to Home and you can choose there.

I’m suggesting to use FB as your page and go to other pages and comment/ share/ etc. You won’t have to link to your page since they’ll see it in your name/ avatar. The other thing you can do is share something from your page onto another another page (either as your page or personal profile).

Was that clear? If not PM me and I can show you.

  • You are correct, @alexandrevicente – there is only one space for a Facebook page link but I would also post the link in your description if you have multiple Facebook pages, @joepascal
What @kathypop was referring to is using your Facebook Page to post on other Pages.  I have a blog post on how to do that here:  https://andreavahl.com/facebook/how-and-why-to-like-other-facebook-pages-as-your-page.php(If you haven’t met Grandma Mary yet, she does the demo here :)

It’s a great way to connect with new audiences by showing up in the conversation as your Page on other Pages.  Hope that helps!

  • Seems to me that all the promos etc are only seen by current Fans. How about those who aren’t fans?

  • @joepascal Hmm… I am an active member of 2 medical support pages / groups on FB. I am a member of others that I do not participate in. I participate in these 2 because I feel they offer the ‘best I have found’ information and support – one for a condition in my family, one for a condition a dear friend has. There are a lot of support groups and – sorry to put it so bluntly – but just as if it was a business, do you have a differentiation (even  within a geography ) and / or a niche? If you do, and you are adding content they cannot get elsewhere, you will attract the people within that niche.

  • Abigail,You are correct and I bring the most current and pertinent material in the world to my readers. Just trying to reach as many folks as possible, as rapidly as possible. Thanks.Joe Pascal
