can you create a fb group page for discussions? (16 posts)

  • I am a member of a script writing group and we wanted to be able to post and comment on current work. Is there a way to create a fb page like a forum where a document is posted and people can post comments on it? And, can it be a closed group?

  • @deairby Hmm, that’s a good question. I believe there was such a possibility to use Facebook for closed group, but I am not the expert so hopefully someone will chime in on this one.

In the past, I have used BaseCamp as a tool to share documents, notes and work with folks who are in different physical locations. And then, of course, there is Google Docs, which is free and universal, assuming you have a gmail account (folks who collaborate must have one as well).

    Hope this helps.

  • thanks, I’ll check out google doc, you are always so helpful, I appreciate it @fredericgonzalo

  • Facebook Groups are perfect for this.  You can make them secret so that they can’t be discovered and then only invite people you want to be in the group.  You can upload docs and everyone can edit them.  We used this while I was writing the Facebook book with my other two co-authors.

  • awesome, how do I set it up? Are there directions on fb? Can it be set up that members are emailed when people post? (one member never goes on fb) @andrea-vahl

  • Yes, I agree with @andrea-vahl . I use it FB groups as my forum and love it! :) I have groups from online marketing to Pinterest that I’m involved in that use FB groups. I’m currently working on a project that helps people run membership sites, deliver their product or even set it up for training employees.

@deairby, private message me if you need help setting it up.

  • @deairby I agree that creating a group is the way to go, unless you’re using a business page. In that case it is not possible to create a private group, but instead you could use Facebook’s Discussion app. If you’d like to keep it completely private, you may have to consider other networks, like Linkedin.

  • No you can make it completely private, @ashleychyle  Here’s a good post from my co-author Phyllis Khare on exactly how you do it.  http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/how-to-use-secret-facebook-groups-to-enhance-your-business/

  • thanks so much, got it up, now adding members, clear, helpful article by Phyllis @andrea-vahl

  • @andrea-vahl, that’s a great post, however, the private groups are being made via personal Facebook accounts, not amongst business pages. That was the obstacle I ran into with my company when trying to connect ourselves with our large agent network. From what I could find, it is impossible to create a private group without going through personal accounts, which we didn’t want to do. Our alternative was to create a group in Linkedin, however, I dont feel its being accessed as much as it would if it were through Facebook. So, if anyone knows a way to create a private group with business pages please let me know!

  • Ahhh, yes, @ashleychyle – you can’t create a private group for Pages.  Pages can’t belong to groups.

  • @deairby Another option might be Asana. I mentioned Asana in one of the small business forums. Basecamp (mentioned by @fredericgonzalo) is something we are looking to switch to for managing all of our projects. However in the past we used Asana since it has been in beta. You can go to Asana.com and read more. It is free and you are able to post and share documents, track tasks, receive reminders, etc.

  • We just started using Asana and it’s a pretty nice piece for being Free!

  • Check out https://trello.com awesome tool for sharing info and organizing projects. We use it at FOG :)

  • where do I find Asana? @alexandrabriggs

  • I’m posting the link to the thread in small business club @alexandrabriggs http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/clubs/small-business/forum/topic/task-management/
