Calendar for Facebook page (17 posts)

  • Hi everyone!  May I invite you to take a look at the calendar on this Facebook page – just click the calendar tab:  http://www.facebook.com/GreyFunnelLine

It uses Teamup Calendar (teamup.com), a free calendar service we provide also as a stand-alone calendar application.  A step-by-step guide for the FB integration is available at goo.gl/OeGeG.

As we have only recently released version 1.0 after a period of beta testing, I would very much appreciate your feedback, especially regarding the FB use.  If you have used any better calendar solutions for your fan page, I would love to hear.  Thank you.

    Jenny

  • It is very neat & clean calender @jenny-zhan, I have suggested to my network.

  • That looks great @jenny-zhan  I have been looking for a good calendar app for a long time!!

  • Thank you @saumitra-ghotikar and @andrea-vahl.  I look forward to seeing how it can help with your needs.  Happy to support at any time!

  • Nice. Playing with it now – may have questions.

  • Okay – managed to get set up and installed on my page. Pretty straightforward, which I like.

    Likes:

    1. Easy install & customization – can’t be overstated.

    2. Admin vs. read-only – even as far as page admins. Great security.

    3. Multiple calendars – in different colors – to differentiate listings.

    Dislikes:

    1. Theme colors are set. Would prefer greater customization.

    2. Have to leave my page to update calendar events. As an admin, would prefer access from FB.

    3. Calendar menu width error – when Agenda or List is selected, menu options move past the edge and List is almost inaccessible.

    4. HTML doesn’t work. Added code to change the font on a paragraph, updated, and nothing changed.

  • Hi Julie,
Many thanks for your thoughtful feedback and sharing your Likes.  Equally appreciated are your Dislikes which I’d like to comment here:
    1. Theme colors:  I would like to better understand what you prefer exactly.  Are you referring to the blue/grey themes applied to the whole calendar, or the color options when you customize header / font / subcalendars etc. under Settings?  We will take your input into consideration for improvement.
    2. Leaving your Page to update events: This is indeed inconvenient.  We don’t have a good solution yet.  A somewhat cumbersome workaround is to create a new Page but unpublish it (Edit Page – Manage Permissions so that it  is only visible to the Page Admin) and add a custom calendar tab just like what you did for your public Page, but with the Admin link of the Calendar (or a “Modify” link) instead of the read-only link.  This way you can update events without leaving FB but changing to a “hidden” Page.  Would this help?  Not so elegant, I know…
    3. Calendar menu width error: We will improve this in the next release.  For now a workaround is to collapse the left bar with the sub-calendar list to make more room for the main calendar area.
    4. HTML: Actually it works with only the few HTML tags corresponding to the format options visible in the Editor (bold, lists, etc.)  Most other tags are disabled for the same reason that Google Calendar has no formatting options:  It is related to iCal integration with other calendars, which we have actually not implemented yet.  We have received many requests to enable more options in the Editor, including the option to insert images.  Are there any specific HTML tags/options particularly important to you?
    Thanks again!

  • @jenny-zhan Thanks for reply. I’ll try to clarify:

    1. Yes, it’s the blue/grey themes. Would like an option to set the colors myself, as the menu colors, etc. are set; although the grey does complement my other colors. (One of the flaws in Google Calendar, IMHO.)

    2. The work-around is rather cumbersome. I think I’d rather wait for an upgrade/ update, allowing admins to do ad hoc mods.

    3. I’m not seeing how to collapse the left sidebar, which would be an acceptable compromise. For my purposes, I don’t need a sub-calendar.

    4. HTML – as I mentioned above, I was trying to modify a font. Another question: If the only HTML tags that work are the ones on the compose menu, why have a clickable link for HTML? It implies that fully-functioning HTML editing is available / operational. I would like to see options to change font size and color. Inserting images would be a nice addition, as well.

Thank you, again for your response.

  • Thank you @julie-g-hughes. Your wishes are well heard and will be considered.

For point 3: It is the tiny triangle in the middle of the vertical divider between the main calendar and the left bar (small calendar, your sub-calendar, About). We plan to make this open vs. collapsed also configurable in a future release.

Point 4: The clickable link for HTML actually does not imply a fully-functionaing HTML Editor, but only the minimum.  It is indeed confusing.  We are working on a better solution.  Thanks.

  • Thanks! @jenny-zhan
    3. Found it! I have got to get better glasses! ;)  I love the idea of making it configurable – you’ve been reading my mind.
    4. Okay, I’ll rephrase. When I see a clickable HTML link, I presume a fully-functioning editor. Perhaps, as I’ve seen elsewhere, a small line stating “Acceptable HTML <b>, <i>, …” or something similar.

  • Love it – will give it a go and blog to our tribe :)

  • Love it!! Added to my FB page and now I am going to try adding to my blog. I have yet to find a calendar that will work with blog.

  • Thank you @julie-g-hughes :-)

Thank you @sharijstauch and @lorithueme.  Lori, Great you have added it to your FB page.  Just a thought:  Have you thought about setting the default to List view instead of the weekly view?  One of the advantages of the List view is that all events in the next 12 months would be visible immediately to your visitors without additional clicks.  This can be configured under Settings / General Settings / Default View.

  • Thanks!! I like that better :)

  • Very nice, Jenny.

  • Thanks @dianebianchi.

Glad @lorithueme you find the List view better.  We will change the default View to List since groups are more often planning events months ahead, versus for a personal calendar it is often more important what’s ahead in the week ahead.
Lori, can you elaborate a bit what the difficulties are for a calendar that will work with blog?  Feel free to send me PM if you prefer.

  • Hello @julie-g-hughes: You wished for it – making the “left panel” open or collapsed configurable – we have done it and just released now!  You can configure it in the Settings / General Settings, set “Control Panel” visible or collapsed.  Please give it a try and let me know how you like it.

@lorithueme: For your blog integration: Set this panel default to “collapsed”, so you display only the main calendar view with flexible width that might fit in the space you have on your blog.  Indeed the other difficulty you had with Google calendar related to displaying only the selected calendar items on your Blog is very easy to handle with Teamup.  Looking forward to hearing if it works for you.  Thanks.
