Here in the Middle East a lot of brands are not using applications for their contests.
Has anyone seen or experienced a negative Facebook reaction to contests being run without an application?
A lot of my clients do not want to pay for that extra cost.

Hi Robin,
a lot of bigger brands in my country ended up with deleted Fan Pages (for example Makro few years ago).
Every user can report posts or Pages directly to the Facebook so it is only a matter of time when Facebook will take the action.
Also, running contests against rules looks unprofessional.

There are many ways to hold a contest on facebook with out paying though- Look for free apps you can install and get creative! Check out Shortstack– they have a bunch of great apps that are free if your page has just a few followers.
