Best Newbie Guides and Links to Get Your Business On Facebook (13 posts)

  • Calling all experts and former newbies to Facebook, would you please share your favorite guides, how to info, and links in this forum that will help me plan and get my marketing business up on Facebook?

I turned this over to others in past projects and have never done it myself. Now I need my own business page for just me. I’d appreciate your help on this.

    Thanx in Advance!

    Robin

  • Great question @atlantarobin – I actually love a lot of the posts on Social Media Examiner for getting started because they are so in depth.  A good place to dive in:   http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/getting-started/

But my favorite is the video that you get when you sign up for the mailing list.  It’s done by Amy Porterfield and very comprehensive.

  • @atlantarobin great question, Robin, I need this info, too.

  • @andrea-vahl @deairby

Andrea, looks like both Dea and I could use this stuff. Thanks for the link. But do you know how I could get access to Amy’s video? I don’t have those emails from when I joined SME, I think last January, maybe earlier. I’m thinking I may have seen her via Mike Koenigs talk about Facebook, but don’t know if that’s the same one. I got Mike’s Mainstreet Marketing Fusion last Spring and I know that’s where I first followed Amy.

  • @atlantarobin Think of what you will want to call your Facebook page. This is more important than many might understand. Try to use your keywords in your fanpage name.

Having your friends like your page is good, but keep in mind that ultimately you will want followers who are interested in your services. At the same time, don’t be afraid to ask your friends to like your page, as after you have twenty-five likes, you will be eligible for a vanity URL. You only get one choice, so choose this wisely.

Every now and then, add status updates that are not business related (eg a quote or picture). Your fans want to know who you are and are less likely to hide your content if they don’t feel spammed.

Remember to use Facebook ads, and don’t get discouraged if your first ad doesn’t get the results you had hoped for. Try another. A different image or changing a few words can make all the difference.

I understand all of this is basic, but the post asks for advice for newbies. Hope it helps. As always, like @andrea-vahl mentioned, Social Media Examiner has great info on this topic. It’s one of my favorite blogs.

  • Thanks for bringing this up. 2012 is going to be a very different, but interesting, year – and Facebook’s ongoing metamorphosis will definitely be one of them.

  • @atlantarobin Hi Robin, I’ve just released an ebook which is aimed at newbies. It’s targeted at people starting home based businesses but has a lot of info on Facebook marketing and ettiquete. For more info go to http://www.supportawahp.com/divinginbook. There are also lots of articles on the blog that may be helpful for you. Also, I found Mari Smith’s webinars really helpful too when I was first figuring Facebook marketing out.

  • If you can’t find your e-mail for the info on the Facebook tutorial, @atlantarobin and @deairby, send a message to irene@socialmediaexaminer.com and she can get that to you!

  • @andrea-vahl thanks, appreciate it, will check it out

  • Socialfresh has put together a good collection of Facebook advice in their crowdsourced book on Facebook Marketing .

  • @gbreward @deairby @andrea-vahl @casmccullough @stonepeople @jgassistance

Thanks, guys and gals! This is all great info you’ve offered here. This newbie has lots of reading to do and fast. My deadline’s the end of January now. Think I can do it? My fingers are crossed!

  • Hi Robin! Other than the Fantastic Social Media Examiner newsletter, which I would urge any nebie to sign up for, I would suggest you vist Amy Porterfield’s Facebook Page and sign up for her emails. She also offers good free webinars and other resources. Same goes for Mari Smith.

As for books, again I would recommed Mari Smith’s book Facebook: An Hour a Day but I need to add a caviate for this. Mari and Chris. her co-authour are currently re-writting this book to take account off the recent Facebook changes, so the eddition that is in the shops is a little bit dated but still a very good read. Her new book ‘Relationship Marketing’ is also a very good general intro to social media.

    Hope this helps!

    @atlantarobin

  • This is a link to a crowdsourced book on Facebook Marketing curated by Social Fresh. I have no connection to them other than being on their mailing list. There are numerous topics that could be of interest to a newbie!
