Bank of America thinks they need a new Social Media strategy (6 posts)

  • Hello Everyone,

So I found this interesting article, it is about Bank of America and how they feel that the problem with their Social Media strategy is that the Social Media team was working in isolation, and that senior management was to risk adverse.

They feel that a new strategy of including everyone from the beginning (and by everyone, they mean senior management and marketing), they can have an awesome social media relationship.

I think that the problem with Bank of America’s social media efforts, is that Bank of America is generally hated by the majority of their customers, and they aren’t afraid to talk about it. That’s just my thought!

Anyone else think BoA might be in trouble with this line of thought? :)

    Jason

(P.S. I’m not sure I can post a link in the first post, but I do think it is relevant for discussion among our group, and examining the status of BoA might be useful for people afraid of being attacked on Social Media… because nothing you’ll get will equal the hate thrown at them! LOL If I get permission, I’ll post my link!)

  • Feel free to post the link, @jasonreilly – links for discussion are fine, self-promotional and sales pitch links aren’t :)

But it’s interesting, I went to their Facebook Page and they have no comments by others in the area where posts normally show up.  Plus I saw someone ask, why do you keep removing my comments? in the comments area of one of the posts.  http://www.facebook.com/BankofAmerica
They must be removing comments if they don’t have a single comment in the posts by others area.  Odd

  • @andrea-vahl Thank you! I just wanted to make sure. I know a lot of places start to get irritated, but I had nothing to do with the story… just found it interesting (plus I give it bonus points for letting me cackle evilly at BoA). You can read it here!

  • @jasonreilly I’m a BoA customer and don’t care to interact with them any more than I need to.  @andrea-vahl Interesting about the comments. I will have to check out their page over the weekend. Even a negative comment is an opportunity for engagement. Case in point: I posted a link to AHAA’s career page and it had dead links. Someone called me on it, so I updated the page and thanked him for the catch.

Of course banks and financially-related companies probably do have some legal restrictions on them…

  • @kc_kreative I hear that a LOT. And yes, we do have strict regulatory issues to deal with, more than most. We’ve had a number of potential social media vendors approach us with ideas that would have resulted in huge fines from the NCUA! :)

We’ve passed on em! Which is why I’m learning more about how the process works.

@andrea-vahl I think BoA is actively deleting any comment at all as they probably are treating Facebook as a one way street, and not a conversation.

  • That’s just bad business!! Why would you enable comments but delete them? Social space is fair game!!

I believe in having some sort of plan in place to tackle the complaints. But if they are too many too count, maybe disable the comments period, rather than deleting them.
