Attraction vs. Retention (8 posts)

  • When it comes to your Facebook efforts, do you spend more time trying to attract new prospects or retain existing ones?

  • @dakotalocal great  question, Jon, looking forward to the answers….haha, right now, I haven’t done either because I’m all over SME!

  • @dakotalocal – This seems like a “cheater” answer, but I have to say both.  I provide content that I hope attracts new prospects while keeping my existing contacts interested and engaged.  It’s an interesting mix.

  • @lisaschulteis I think that good content will do both, however as I was thinking while working (on an unrelated project) wouldn’t it make sense to consciously design your content with a specific intent knowing the final result will be multifaceted?

It could just be me and my odd thinking, but I’m curious now.

  • @dakotalocal I design my content based on where I am posting it.  I do not post the same exact content on Facebook as I do on Twitter or LinkedIn.  I re-purpose to an extent, but not totally.

I think our content has to be multi-faceted in terms of outcomes.  It is one of the challenges in providing content in the first place.  I also try to mix it up, because not everyone on Facebook is going to like the same content.  So I try to make sure I provide things that are all related to my business, but are still different enough to pique the interest of different people.

    Always a challenge…

  • Great question @dakotalocal. I do my best to interact with all, but you can lead a horse to water…

If you’re writing good content, both will occur in my opinion. I find Facebook is a lot harder than Twitter or LinkedIn to gain followers, but is easier to keep them. Facebook followers are more loyal in my experience.

I think a lot of businesses also need to connect on a personal level. I like to share little tidbits about myself. People will like content, they’ll stay because of the value that is provided them and they like you. I think that makes sense, lol.

  • When looking at the rate that fans are going to unlike your page, it seems right to aim your efforts at attracting new fans, as the existing fans won’t go away very soon once they’re ‘in’. …
