Are you looking forward to Facebook Timeline? (11 posts)

  • With the reports that Facebook Timeline will be announced for brands at the end of the month (http://mashable.com/2012/02/15/facebook-timeline-for-brands/), I just wanted to see how everyone was feeling about it?

Most of the people I know didn’t like timeline for personal pages, personally I do – they look neater and nicer.
Are you looking forward to Facebook Timeline for your pages or are you dreading it?

(Sorry if this has already been posted, I’ve had a look and couldn’t find anything similar)

  • I moved to the timeline on my personal profile a few days ago, only because I have to in a few days anyway. I dreaded it for my personal profile, and I dread it for my company page. I like change, so that isn’t it. I don’t care for the new look or functionality, and how it is a required change. I understand that FB is a free service, and many people think users shouldn’t complain about anything. Obviously, I disagree! ☺

  • Timeline will likely present an opportunity to some, and a challenge to others, to step up their Facebook marketing.  The good news is that with forums like this one, you can count on those participants that embrace and master the change to share what they’ve learned with the rest of us!  Be positive.  Start thinking about how you want your new banner (assuming it will be similar to the Timeline Profile banner) to look.  You could design it ahead of time and be ready to make the transition when the big day comes.  If FB offers the change as an option initially, take it!  You can work it out on your schedule, instead of theirs.  Let us all know how it works out for you, in any case!

  • How do I design a banner? I would love to do that because I need one for my blog that I plan to move to WP. Is there free software available that a non-designer like me can use?

  • I personally dig the Timeline for my personal profile and have had it since the day it was announced in September.

I look forward to it on pages as it’s been a year since any major changes on pages and people get bored and pages get stale. So it’s time..

  • Yes, I agree! I think the Timeline will be a nice addition to pages.

If you don’t have a program like PhotoShop or Illustrator, you could try some free programs like Aviary, Pixlr or Photobucket.  Best of luck!

  • I don’t like Timeline for my personal page. I stupidly upgraded as soon as I could back in September, tried to live with it for a month or two, then deleted the app. Of course, now we are all forced into it. I rarely go to my timeline now and I do feel like people don’t see status updates as easily as before. I did not go back and update my timeline with my life, except to update the date on a few older photos I had already uploaded.

However, I’m looking forward to it for my pages! :) I admin for a gallery and some artists so we are looking forward to putting up a custom cover. And for the business I work for, we’ve been in business since 1969 so I’m anxious to update our timeline and get our logo on the cover.

Oh, and I should add, you do not have to have a custom cover, at least for the personal timeline. It will take your last photo you uploaded and use that. For pages, we’ll have to wait and see how it works.

  • Nice topic! I’ve read so much about it that I honestly do not know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. FB makes changes all the time and we are all trying to catch up and when you think you are in the game they change again…

Does that mean that all those customized tab on the left below your page picture are going to be gone? If so, what are the options?

It will be interesting this new change, look forward to it :)

  • I am not sure about my feelings on timeline quite yet, I like the look of it, but it’s starting to feel more and more like MySpace was.

Something similar has already been done to Facebook Groups, instead of having a group 4 x 3 picture in the top left, you know have a “banner” that stretches across the top, and it defaults to profile pictures of different people in the group. It does give you an option to upload a different picture, so I have to play with that a little bit yet.
