This article is interesting and funny to me. For me personally, growing up in the social media era I think that the “like” button is a form of free speech. Whether it needs to be protected under the first amendment or not seems a little crazy, but if people are going to fire people over what they “like” on Facebook then unfortunately it’s going to have to become a legal issue.

I’d love to think that people could be adult enough to know that Facebook is just Facebook and what someone “likes” shouldn’t affect the job they can do for you or necessarily their deep rooted beliefs. Maybe they “like” a page just to see what’s going on on that page. I work for a third-party Facebook platform and I like our competitors to stay up to date on what’s going on with their platform. But if executives who are not used to social media and the way people use it don’t understand that, I can see how this has become a first amendment issue! So bring on the “like” button joining our first amendment rights!
