Appearance of fb page in search results (16 posts)

  • Hi there!!

Haven’t been able to sucessfully post to the “introduce yourself thread”..so forgive me for just diving in with a question.

When I search (ie.google) our business name “O’Leary Fashion and Footwear”, the result for our fb page appears just as a single paragraph…I have noticed that other businesses fb page results appear in search results almost like a website, with section titles such as info, about, highlights, posts by page ect…

How do I do this for our fb page?

    Thanks in advance,

    Susan

  • Hello @glad2be, the reason that happens is because you have not structured the “About info” on your facebook page properly. That needs to be sorted out, especially as your page is a places page.

  • @otoabasiumonting what  are the proper things  to  do on  your   ABOUT PAGE..?

  • @annfurnivall here’s the about using caps when having a conversation – you’re shouting!

The info you fill on the about section of your website should be the same thing you fill out on your facebook page. Business description… what is it about? what problem does it solve? And so on. Use keywords relevant to your niche.

  • sorry i  dropped that rule quite a while ago….LOL…is it  still around?  …i just like    caps…and  dont take the rule as  binding  …i use  caps on  my  facebook page all the  time…and in all my  marketing…

@otoabasiumonting so you  are mainly saying  to  get the  good  keywords in to the  facebook   about page?   thanks…

  • Hey @annfurnivall, that’s fine.

They have to be keywords that are in relation to your business. Let’s say you are in the “Fitness” niche. You will use keywords like “body building”, “nutrition”, “health”, “workout”, etc. Those are relevant keywords within that niche. But they have to be structured within the content of your business information.

    See this example below:

“I have been a “fitness coach” for over 5 years now, and I help people get back into shape. I share “health and nutrition” tips…

I hope you get the idea.

  • @otoabasiumonting thanks…im  going to  check that today..nice tip

  • You may be interested in this thread I stared today: http://goo.gl/MQ6gt Since Mark Z parties with lots of Microsoft folks (Hackathons @ Facebook HQ) don’t just focus on Google – you could be de-indexed at any point in time

  • What do you mean you could be de-indexed at any time? Your FB page or your website?

Generally, if you do the right thing by google then you have nothing to fear. If you are pushing SEO to the limit, you do.

I don’t really understand though what point you are making @mitch-rezmanre the de-indexing though so maybe you could elaborate?

    Cheers

  • Hi guys thanks for the responses but I don’t think I really made myself clear in the original post. I would like my fb page to have this appearance in search results..

rather than at present like this

  • @Scott Linklater Two weeks ago my site somehow became “un-verified” in Google Webmaster tools and Google Merchant Center. In June of 2011 we went from 28,000 uniques per month to 12,000 uniques a month. The SEO company I had hired at the time had allowed more than 12,000 404′s to accumulate. we got wiped out in a Panda update in spite of Google Webmaster Tools stating 404′s shouldn’t impact rank. Tails abound of websites getting de-ranked. Million dollar SEO agencies bought links for years because they produced SEO juice and that was the norm. Then in 2010 Google changed the rules Overstock.com and JC Penny (to name a couple) lost 20% of their on-line revenue due to Panda. Google is fully automated once the algorithms are developed. How accurate do you think their robots are in determining the rank of hundreds of millions websites? Penguin killed some really big sites like Lyrics.com. It’s anyone’s best guess at any given point in time is what signals and what value those signals have for the Google Algorithm. It’s the same reason every one was whining when they lost “reach” on Facebook earlier this year. Edgerank shifted forcing pages to become more relevant (think Google Panda) like a “de-indexing” or “re-indexing” of fan pages. So to circle back to your question, there is no “pushing SEO to the limit”  you can never have enough back links or content there is no SEO limit, nothing more than the “hope” Google interprets your use of data and your website doesn’t languish in the colon of a Google data center.

  • @Susan O’Leary it’s important to understand that Google has no formal relationship with Facebook (or Twitter). It’s very difficult to get detailed social medial results in Google unless they’re related to Google +.  I’ve come to believe that you must focus Facebook organic SEO within Bing and not bother with trying to build major Facebook results on Google because it’s just not going to happen. This is my opinon. If you search Bing you will see Facebook “experts” populate the right column of search results as well as threads  from http://www.quora.com  a site developed by one of the founders of Facebook who has branched off.

  • @glad2be That’s really interesting !! I would call it Sitelink for Facebook. Can anyone share insights on how one can get it displayed in SERP and what are advantages of having it appeared in SERP? Thanks!

  • @Moin Shaikh thanks for the recognition of the point of my original post.

Not saying that I don’t appreciate ALL the responses but yours is most on topic.

I have no idea what SERP means…but as an average joe soap, with no formal training, I see the following benefits as

    1) As a searcher, I don’t even register thatthis is a fb page listing, it looks like a website, so I’m clicking on some link.

    2) As a small business owner who doesn’t have a website ..it looks like i do and people likely to visit.

I wish some of the fb experts could give guidance on how you could set this up…I’m sick of the mirrors and smoke..

  • @glad2be This one has been frustrating me as well. Many of our competitors have the same kind of listing (taking up the same amount of real estate in the SERP ). I will figure this out and post the answer here when I do.

  • Thanks @ck_smith….I want one of those listings.
