Affiliate Links allowed or not on social media sites? Rules? Guidelines? (5 posts)

  • Affiliate Links allowed or not on social media sites? Rules? Guidelines?

I’ve got an event project that’s rush, rush and no time to review rules (uh-oh).

Can yall give me a head’s up on guidelines or how not to offend when posting on various social media sites?

Right now, I’m recruiting for author/writer/developer contributors of free ebooks, videos, software, services that are downloadable to be given away free to a huge audience (could be 30,000+) in exchange for helping those writers/etc build their list in the social media/internet marketing arena for free.

I’ve participated in the past only as a registrant, not as a contributor or jv partner, and got tons of stuff for free, but was so intrigued by the process I’ve now jumped onboard as a joint venture partner, though coming in very late is causing me to rush, rush.

Sorry, can’t answer more questions right now as I’m running behind.

Any caution or guideline yall can offer here can only help.

    Thanks in advance,

    Robin Carlisle

  • Various social media sites have their mode of operation. On a platform like facebook, to post your affiliate link, you have to belong a group that has to do with affiliate marketing or internet marketing.

But before you go ahead to post anything, be sure to check the group’s policy first; that way you won’t be seen as a spammer when putting up your links.

Moderate the posting as well (Maybe 2-3hours in between). If you have a page, then that’ll be a good place to post your links; but it’ll depend on how engaging your page is.

You can do the same on Linkedin groups. Twitter helps you shorten links when posting; so your focus should be on making your post more compelling, that way you get people to click and visit your site.

There’s a new social platform for Business owners called IBOtoolbox, where you can connect with other business owners, and share business ideas. You can have a look to it and see if it’ll be a good fit.

Very helpful, Otoabasi. That’s helping me make a quick checklist. Just the kinds of things I’m looking for with this fast jumpstart project to keep me on track and out of trouble. Thanks..

By the way, I love your name. How do you pronounce that.

    o-to-a-ba-si ?
    o-to-ba-si ?
    Or another way?

  • It’s a tough call, @atlantarobin.  Basically what you run into is the FTC guidelines but also a level of audience trust.  If you are going to post affiliate links on social media sites, it’s best to disclose that they are affiliate links.  I wrote an article about the FTC guidelines and posting here:   https://andreavahl.com/facebook/how-to-promote-affiliate-products-on-your-facebook-page.php

    There’s also a good article here:  http://econsultancy.com/us/blog/3805-social-media-and-affiliate-marketing-a-slippery-subject

    Hope that helps!

  • @atlantarobin sorry this response is coming late; I was off the net for a while. To pronounce my name correctly, the first option will work well – “O-to-a-ba-si”. Have a great week.
