Advertising Fan Pages (14 posts)

  • Have you had success in advertising Facebook Fan Pages in your local market? What techniques have you used that worked and failed.

  • LOL… so I had a spelling mistake above. I went to correct the spelling and BAM, I received a -10 for fixing it. lol… so odd.

  • @dennischica Have done the same myself twice, almost as if they want mistakes leaving in posts

  • very true. but they reward post to people for just saying “thank you”… point hogs… lol.

Either way, this is a great system.

  • @dennischica it does seem a little strange to reward quantity over quality especially in a community like this one. Have you also noticed that people adding EVERYONE as a friend for the +5 lol

  • @dennischica @pacey

I’ve noticed that also, but I believe you get the points back when you re-submit the post so it is a wash on the points.

  • lol… I was reported for spamming someone who friend-ed me. I said, well if they could spam me as a friend, why not tell them about my services. That person then reported me… lol. I took her off my friends list. Since then she’s friend-ed me 3 times, and I keep hitting reject. go figure. They need a spamming friend option button.

  • @dennischica Being able to block users would solve that lol

  • Just make sure that you don’t send or share any info without getting permission first and that should solve that.

I’ll often reply with, “I saw where you were asking about xxxx, I may have some info that would be helpful. Do you mind if I send it to you?”

If they say yes, then great, if not, well that’s ok also.

  • lol… so funny. you would think as majority of everyone here is in some type of business owner or resource, that it would be beneficial for both party to tell each other what they do, instead of having to ask permission.

  • @dennischica

On one hand I agree, but SME is more of an “educational” and resource sharing forum, rather than a marketing forum such as the Warrior Forum.

It’s a subtle difference, but there you have it.

  • @dennischica Facebook ads work! And very well.

Best way is to start experimenting with them. Keep the daily budgets low until you see what works. And keep using what does work.

Make sure your images are compelling. This is really important as it will attract the eye. Using faces is a good way. But it also needs to fit with what you are advertising.

Write good copy. Go to CopyBlogger and learn from them. And make sure you provide a call to action in the copy. (Something as simple as “Apply Now” will do)

Keep your own spreadsheet track of how well ads are going and how they do. I do this fairly manually but this helps me know what is working and what isn’t.

Use a combination of broad and targeted audiences. This will depend on what you are advertising and who your target audience is.

Don’t have an ad run for any longer than 2 days in a row. The drop off rate after this time is HUGE!

    Experiment lots!

    Hope that helps!. :)

  • I totally agree. Facebook advertising rocks.

We recently had a customer who was offering a prize just for Liking his site. It was going nowhere. We created 2 ads with different images and allocated $5 per day budget and the Likes went from 75 to 824 in 7 weeks. The response and engagement was amazing.

The Ads interface was really easy to use also.

  • I have recently been having a lot of success with using Facebook advertising for a dental technology client, where as other campaigns I have tried for other clients have not been that succesful. I used to make the generalisation that FB advertising worked well for B2C companies and B2B companies were not that well suited to this method of advertising, but I have since changed my opinion on this.

I now believe that the most important factor is whether the business lends its’ self well to using the user profile data to target customers. For example, I believe that the dental technology company is having a lot of success because they can easily target university graduates with dental degrees (their market is dentists) as that is information fields people will usually complete accuratly in their profile.

    Hope thinsight is helpful!
