A social media campaign I never expected to launch. (4 posts)

  • Hi SME family! The past few days I’ve launched a social media campaign I never thought I’d be launching. My beautiful friend and fellow blogger Lauren lost her six month old baby in very tragic circumstances over the weekend and we’ve launched a purely social campaign to help raise funds for the family. The reason it’s purely social is because Lauren is boycotting the media due to them trawling through her blog looking for people to interview and plastering wild inaccuracies about her family on the front page of every newspaper here. The power of social media never ceases to amaze me. Lauren announced the news on Twitter and has been posting on there regularly throughout this ordeal. She’s a beautiful, inspirational soul who has responded with incredible dignity throughout this whole thing and I wanted to share our page with you to show you just how powerful social can be. http://www.facebook.com/Sparklling_Elijah_Rainbow.

  • Ugh that’s terrible, @casmccullough  What a sad story and very frustrating when you are online more.  I saw something similar with a very personal issue that was played out much larger online due to the fact that the person had a large presence.  I would hate to have that “used against me” in that way.

That being said, can you double check the link, it didn’t work – you had an extra “L” in there but even when I took that out it didn’t work.  I’d love to see the page.

  • http://www.facebook.com/sparklingelijahrainbow Sorry! Brain in gear now!

  • @andrea-vahl It’s true, we need to be mindful that our words and posts can be used against us by the news media and others. It’s not something we like to think about, is it?
