789 Post likes in 19 hours ”Is Anyone Out Here?” (22 posts)

  • I have been creating what I call “The Great Adventures” on the How to Market Your Horse Business   or any other business… Facebook page.

So many of our fans, business owners, have been complaining that they are not being seen on the newsfeeds of Facebook.

Yesterday, on a whim, I tried something new. I tried it on HTMYHB  In 19 hours I have gotten 789 likes and 39 shares!

I used a photo I have used before and have had some results from it, but nothing like what happeed yesterday.

The only difference, was the words I used with the photo.

    “Is anybody out there?”

We are checking to see who see’s this post. Please click on the like if you see it. :)

This tells me that people are seeing our posts.  The issue is, that they are not willing to lift their fingers to like them for us.  Now the question is, what can we do to get people to take action to even just like our posts?

What are you doing to keep people more interactive with your posts?  What works for you?

  • @randithompson That type of post is something that works well from time to time.  I don’t recommend doing that all the time or your audience will get a little “Like weary” but I do see some pages doing it all the time so it can’t be all bad.  But I think it does lose its effectiveness.  Definitely good to know who is paying attention!

  • @randithompson Hi Randi

Nice idea. As to your question at the end “what can we do to get people to take action to even just like our posts?”

Get creative and post quality are two things. Also I have written two blog posts on building engagement on Facebook here and here, which should help out.

The thing to remember about Facebook is that just because someone isn’t liking or commenting on your posts doesn’t mean they aren’t reading.

  • I agree, @Andrea-Vahl  I see people asking for likes all the time and it gets really old.  I wanted to see if anyone would respond.  Interesting results.  I tried this on both my business pages and my profile to see what will happen.  So far, 850 likes on HTMYHB (only 6000 fans)  The other business page has another photo, 150 likes (started it late last night) with only 2000 fans.  Tonight, I added the first photo to my  profile by sharing it to see the results.

So many people are saying that they are not being seen on the newsfeeds.  This showed me that we are visible.  The issue would be in creating posts that people actually want to lift a finger to like, comment or share.  I have not seen a change in fans, or the stats for people talking about this.  I expected the people talking about this to go up…  Facebook must be running slow.

  • @russellallert You are so right. Getting creative and posting quality to matter.  not that this will get anyone on the “other end” to respond by liking, commenting or sharing that post.  I think that is the trick, teaching those who see our posts that we really do need their inspiration to continue bringing them what they enjoy.

I enjoyed your blog posts!  Do you mind if I share them on HTMYHB?  I am always looking for new ways to help our fans get better with their comments.  This is the foundation for anyone doing business with social media.

  • @randithompson Thanks, Randi. Feel free to link to the posts all you want! :)

  • Thank you @russellallert!  I am always looking for good information for my fans.

Latest stats on this recent post (again strange as I have shared that photo twice before…

No idea why it has gone viral this time.

    Hi,

Your inspiratinal quotes are commendable. Keep posting them :)

    Cheers!

  • @randithompson  Excellent strategy! Thanks for sharing. :)

  • Thank you so much @suchigoyal!  I really appreciate the feedback.  Now, I am having the quotes I share have my Facebook page added on the bottom.  That way, as they go viral,  the HTMYHB name will go with them.

  • Hi, @amyhallbiz,

Not sure about strategy, but now that I think about it, this post has turned into a way to market.  I created the post after hearing so many complaints from FB business page owners who said that no one sees them anymore on the newsfeeds.

I was surprised when it went viral. I am not sure what happened.  I think part of the reason that it kept spreading was that I kept the comments going.  I also  suggested that other business owners might also want to :Share it” on their walls or profiles, to see if anyone was “out there”  They did!  I also posted several times ways that people could share that post on their timelines, in groups, and so on.

People are still liking it.  Today,  1035 likes, 160 shares and 62 comments.  The action has slowed down.  It will be interesting to see where it goes and the results.

  • Made me look !  Amazing how many fans you have now. Sometimes outrageous works too … inspired me to try something on my 7 Waves page.  It sure beats running contests for prizes clients think people want :)  Cathy

  • @randithompson @russellallert @andrea-vahl What do you think about adding a statement like these to your posts?

“Give us a ‘thumbs up’ if this information was useful, helpful or entertaining”
    –or–
“‘Like’ or comment if you would like to see more photos like these”

This gives readers a reason to like or comment, and would help us focus our posts to what people want to see…

  • Hi, @Reneestpeter

I find that most people do not respond to those requests.  This viral post was a “fluke” some how, the combination of photo and words worked.  That time.  This is a video I did on it a few days ago.  It is still slowly moving.  Is anyone out there?

I see people who add “Please like this” or what ever all the time and find I do not respond.

There must be another way we can train our readers.  They really do not understand how important their showing us that they care through likes, comments or shares, really is to us.

Now taking ideas!  Does anyone know the secret?

    Randi

  • @randithompson very inspiring post!!!   and  thread…..   i think  it went viRAL  BECASUE YOU ASKED….most of us  just  read places  and   go on even when we like them a lot…..  maybe it  was  just a  BIG HUG    from  your  fans….

p.s.  looks like  your  page is  totally useful  to the horse   community…. the  interactions  seems   so   genuine…..  you are about the  best  example ive seen of  marketing to a  niche….and i  love that idea and bring it up  often    on  forums  when  marketing   folks  wonder how to get   followers…. and  the idea usually  falls  flat,  with little    reaction!!lol….

i  wish there was a marketer   that in touch with my world….  GREAT  JOB….

  • WOW!  @annfurnivall  You made my day.  Your words really made me feel good.  Thank you so much.  I have taken my fans with my on my journey into social media. Many of them have watched both my successes and failures.  It has been fun for me to watch how many of them have become “Movers and Shakers” in their niches.  That is what inspires me.

If I can do this, YOU can!  Why not be the marketer that touches your world?

    Randi

  • lol…i have a full  time thing  going  just  keeping my   store   going!!!  AND its a  big handful…  i  just market for  me….and  try  to  get it  as  good as possible…

there sure are tons of  stores in my  world  who would  probablly  love a marketer w ho  knew  the   ways of our world….like where the  shows  were, what month we struggle with christmas…that would be  now!!lol… and all our insider details ……

i did  get  a lot out of  your   page  even  as  not a horse person….it  just  seemed  interesting and alive….and  kind of outside the  box….its  so hard  to pin  down how to  get  the  neat   TONE.and   warm  personality., like  you have done, .thru  the   ether…or whatever  you  call it……  …….

  • @randithompson I think that’s a big key to having a following, is being willing to share your failures…and also to not only share your successes but those of your followers. Talking with people instead of at them….goes such a long way in creating relationships/community :)

  • @randithompson thats great you are adding your page name in the comments section but i am bit confused what extra milleage it is giving you? If we share any post that fanpage name is displayed by default Abc shared a link/photo via Buzzintown (fanpage)…

  • @annfurnivall.  Thank you. Yes, you are right. For me, this is more than just marketing.  I realize that this goes much deeper than that, for me, and the people who love what they do as a business.  Those who are attracted to HTMYHB (both horse and non horse business) have a great passion for their business and the clients that they want to attract and keep.

Like many people, I started my journey into social media by posting facts, and promoting the page.  That was OK, but was not really who I am.  So, I started adding other information.  Motivational, quotes, humor.  That was when I noticed that the fans started interacting more with me and the posts I shared.

Social media really does let us “stretch our imaginations”.. I am glad I found my way here.

    Randi

  •  I agree,  @reneestpeter  By sharing my journey, people have seen that I am human and go through the same issues everyday that they do.  When I started promoting other people, I found that they did the same for me!  Any success that I have with HTMYHB are a result of our amazing community.

    Randi

  •  @suchigoyal  That is a great question!  By adding my name to the comments I make I am getting more “brand recognition” associated with my page.  People see who is posting with the page.  I also have several admins who come in at times, they also sign their names so people know who is commenting.

I learned this from the Social Media Examiner.

It makes a big difference.  At first it feels awkward, but now, it is second nature.  Most of my fans are also doing the same on their pages.
