25 Likes to Claim your Page Name (11 posts)

  • Last year I read Facebook removed the 25 like requirement to create your page name. Was that misinformation? I haven’t been able to claim my new page and waiting to hit 25 to get things moving. Is 25 still enforced? Thanks

  • Hi Kathy, back in Oct/Nov of last year I had to be at 30 likes to change FB page name for a client.  Not sure if that’s changed since then or not. I do know that once you create the name it can not be changed. (FYI)

  • You NO LONGER have to have 25 Likes to claim your url. See my post from a couple days ago.

But just so there’s no confusion, this is for your url. Once you set your Facebook NAME, it cannot be changed.
Social Media Tip of the Day #18. Hooray! You no longer need 25 Likes before you can personalize your Facebook Page’s url! So instead of a really long address with a lot of numbers at the end, you can shorten it to just your Business Name, ie,http://www.facebook.com/cotyconnections. But hurry before Facebook changes its mind again! :-)

  • Hi  @lesliecoty – I remember there was a short time when you could get your username with no requirement but it seems it’s gone back to the 25! My gosh, we celebrated!

Short-lived though, at least from my end. I have not been able to get a username prior to 25 fans for my clients or students.

    Wierd isn’t it?

I will read your blog to see if it sheds any light..

  • Okay I just secured my name with 19 likes! Wonder what the magic number is because it wouldn’t let me secure it at 6. Would be interesting if anyone knows.

  • Has anyone considered that there may be other factors involved such as postings, page visits, reach, etc…?

  • I set up 2 new fan pages this week and was actually prompted at the very beginning by FACEBOOK to go ahead and get the custom URL.  There were NO likes on the page except mine.

  • @charlynshelton-socialmediainterpreter I tried that when I first set it up and I got the pop-up I didn’t qualify for a name yet. Weird, maybe it depends on the time of day :)

  • Facebook often tests its changes by quietly rolling them out in one market but not another. Wouldn’t surprise me if there is inconsistency.

  • Haven’t been able to get mine – have 22 likes, not sure what is in play.

  • @janecook
maybe @janecook is right, it just depends. For training purposes I am going to stick with the 25, that way you can’t go wrong. Keep us posted that you were able to get it at 25.
