Writing informatively without ’pitching’ (7 posts)

Topic tags: blog content, marketing
  • My client’s blog / content hub intends to follow the rules of providing value and keeping away from marketing. However, there is a category that is dedicated to detailing the products and the value they provide. It’s an informative category, but obviously when you discuss the product and it’s uses and who it’s good for, it’s hard not to be ‘pitchy’

    any advice?

and to be a little more clear, we aren’t selling things like tires where you can get a little more technical, these are personalized photo gifts, so it’s heavy on the emotions.

    Thanks!

My advice:  Make sure these pages live off of your blog.  They can be integrated into your website, but should likely sit under a page not a post.

  • Try discussing one aspect of how to do good family photography (providing information on lighting, enviroment, positioning, filters, etc.) and then end by talking about how your product can enhance your photography, linking to the pages that Michael suggests.

  • @Andrea put this in the pages section as Michael is saying. And, they have a business, so I feel that you can have a promotional post every once in a while.

  • @andrea-lowenstein Can you use case studies and testimonials instead of blogs? Like @mike-stelzner said, these should live elsewhere from your blog, but you can showcase them a little better if they had their own piece of real estate on your site.

  • Thank you all for great replies  @erikdeckers@ernohannink@kathybernard@mike-stelzner

I will incorporate several of your ideas. One of our categories is Products. So it was going to be placed under there, but perhaps I will have the information appear … as you say… as pages. I will ask our WP guy if we can create pages as sub-sub-categories. Pretty sure you can do anything in WP, it’s a studiopress theme.

We have already reached out to ‘users’ of our products to offer exchange of them explaining how they used our service, as a case-study, in exchange for links / exposure.

    Thanks!

  • @mike-stelzner @kathybernard thank  you for this tip. A great way to add value of your product service and provide valuable informaiton making you an expert.
